Happy birthday to Tekno Venus!!!

I hope you're having a really great one Stephen :)

Sysnative certainly wouldn't be nearly the same without you. I've missed being able to chat to you and everyone else in the Windows Update section during this exam period. Loads to catch up on afterwards! Still, happy 17th for today :)
but is that age or date. hmmmmmm.

P.S. Here's a cake for you :)

Happy Birthday, Stephen! Hope that the amount of work you've got on atm hasn't stopped you from having a great day :D

Happy Birthday, Stephen! You are very talented and do so much for Sysnative. Have a wonderful day!

(P.S. Love the cake, Richard.)

Thanks everyone! :D

Having a pretty relaxed day today, although I did have a meal out with a bunch of friends Friday evening which was great :) Having a homework free day for once which makes a change (I'll do it all tomorrow instead!)

Yes, it's been very quiet in the back room without you!

Love the cake too! This was my actual birthday cake this year:

Wow! That is an incredible cake! I forgot this was the birthday you learn to drive!

Do you have any lessons planned? With parents? Professional instructor? Do you have a car? Now that is the big question :p

Just remember, come test time, that you have nothing at all to prove, to anybody. Remember that there is no pressure on you other than that which you put on yourself to pass first time. It doesn't matter how many times it takes to pass, the only thing which matters is making sure that you are a good, safe, driver. Driving should be something you can enjoy, but you must keep in the back of your mind that being a safe driver is more important than anything else so that it does not become the last thing you enjoy.

For what it's worth, it took me three attempts to pass. Yes, it was tough owning up to friends and family that I have failed. Twice. But I learned an awful lot from the extra experience with instructor & parents, and I still continue to learn.

Finally, I must say that driving isn't necessarily all it's hyped up to be. It isn't necessarily the most incredible experience you'll never have. In fact, it was difficult and very stressful at times. But it's a necessarily skill and one where you should be able to enjoy the process of learning. It isn't easy though, but I'm sure the large number of experienced drivers here will be happy to answer any questions you have. Also, if you want to ask anything about the test process, or anything else about the learning process, please do feel free to ask. Chances are I had all the same problems :) So whilst I am, given my inexperience, not a good person to ask about driving in and of itself, I have a good memory of the test and learning processes and might be able to help in those areas. Don't hesitate to ask :)

Once again Stephen, I hope you're having a really great birthday! Forget about work, kick your feet up and relax!

Happy Birthday Stephen, I hope you've had a good day.

I've been learning to drive for a while now, I'm putting in for my test in February. It's difficult, but it's all about practice, the more you put in, the quicker you learn.

Happy birthday, Stephen! I hope you have a fantastic day :)

Learning to drive....that is an experience I wont forgot :P. It is just about being calm and relaxed, the first time I ever drove was with my father and we were just going around the block neighbor hood block for about on hour, for the whole hour I never went over 20km/h LOL. But now driving is second nature.

Happy birthday Stephen ^_^ . I am late according to my time zone but well I still made it before the US Time Zones : D (I am having a lot of internet problems)

I hope you have a fantastic day and good luck.

Here in India, we get the license to drive a 4-wheeler at 18 and non-gear vehicles at 16. I got mine at 18 and trust me, it is really a great pleasure in driving the car at 100+km/h on the highways.
But, make sure you always wear seatbelts. Also, if you think that the speed is very high, lower it till you start feeling confident. And if you have played racing games, then I don't think that you would have any problem in clearing the test. :grin1:

I remember when I got scolded by my dad when he found that even after getting a permanent license and after 6 months, I was pressing the clutch while braking. Don't do that, since you lose your engine's internal braking due to the freeing of the gears. Also, here in India I see most of my friends (My college is located in a hilly area) just turning off the vehicles on the slope, make sure you don't do that as well for the same above reason. You would have more control if your engine is running ;)

Below are some of the quotes I find while driving in India -
  • Don't drink and Drive
  • Better late than never
  • Go slow, someone is waiting for you at home
  • Time is money but life is more precious

I know that the above quotes are not very positive but they have a strong message so keep them in mind and drive sensibly. Like Richard said that you don't have to show anybody that you can drive (Yes, I mean revving up engine at traffic lights...)

I think it has been a long post now and Richard is already there to help you out.

So, have a delighted day and once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY ^_^

-Pranav

Thanks guys! :)

Wow! That is an incredible cake!
My mum is the one who made the cake - she always bakes cakes for me and my sister on our Birthdays. :)

Driving lessons were my main Birthday lesson, so yes, I will be taking lessons. I will probably start learning in February, got to sort out Provisional License and other things first. It will be with a professional instructor, although my parents have suggested they take me to an empty car park to just practice starting the car and getting a feel for pulling away and stopping.

Getting a car will come later. We will have to sort out the driveway first because there's no room for another car! Once we actually have room for a car, I will be looking at getting one. The car itself isn't the real issue, it's the cost of insurance that makes it all so expensive!! Will need to hunt around and see how cheap I can get it.

@Richard and @Pranav - thanks for the advice. :) I'm not quite as desperate to drive as some of my friends, but I am looking forward to the independence it will give me. And Pranav, I don't envy you driving in India! From what I've seen of India, the roads can be pretty chaotic!

Envy? o.O

Yes, the roads can be very chaotic and so can the people be. I just wish that you never get the opportunity to drive here. :grin1:
