    Post your desktop!

You can tell a lot about a person by appearance and contents of their desktops. It is a reflection of their style, favorite programs and tidiness.

With that said, I would love to see what masterpieces you stare at when you sit down at your computer. Why you chose your background and how it represents you!

    Here is my current desktop:

I have always enjoyed photography so I asked some of my friends to share some of their shots with me. After looking through a few I selected this beauty.

It was taken by Donald Gray

    Re: Post your desktop!

About the only time I see the desktop is when I shutdown/restart my computers. I rely on the desktop toolbar and use it heavily for quick access to things I use regularly.

On Windows Vista, I have the pleasure of seeing my beautiful grandgirls:

Windows 7, on the other hand, I decided to keep simple:

I didn't previously know about Desktop Toolbars.... I think maybe I should start to use them.

    Re: Post your desktop!

Its easy to do, although if you want to organize the shortcuts within folders, it will be easier to do that before creating the Desktop toolbar.

    • Right-click on the Taskbar
    • Scroll up to Toolbars, expand and check Desktop
    • To hide Desktop icons, Right-click the desktop, point to View and uncheck "Show desktop icons".

Note: After creating the Desktop Toolbar, when you save a file to the Desktop, it will automatically be placed in the toolbar. As appropriate, right-click the new shortcut and cut/paste to the appropriate folder.

Tip: For visual identification of folder contents, change the folder icon to a custom icon.
Right-click the Folder icon, select Properties > Customize > Change Icon

My desktop background is plain black because it is easy to see my icons that way. I also use JumplistLauncher a little bit.

I have 2 desktop toolbars, and I find them fairly handy :) Most of my quick access developer tools are in them.

    Tidiness? ON A DESKTOP?
Seriously, I rarely even look at my Desktop
I have a folder there that says "Old Desktop Stuff".
When my Desktop gets too full, I move some of the stuff into it.

I can't recall what my Desktop is (I peeked, it's the Win7 default), but here's what I see when I logon:

Hey Laxer... How do you get one image to span both desktops????

    I use a program called: http://www.displayfusion.com/

I recommend it to anyone using multi-monitors.

Not only for it's great background tools but for its short cut keys it has. Makes moving windows to other screens much faster

I only use the icons on my desktop because I hate the clutter down in the system tray(windows bar, whatever the whole thing is called)....

I also do use hotkeys to open things.... (win+d, start typing name of shortcut, hit enter)
