Happy Birthday, tom982

I got ripped off when I turned 21. Traditionally, you finally get to drink [legally] so you have a party to celebrate. But when I was 20 I was in the Air Force and got stationed in the Azores, a group of Portuguese islands out in the middle of nowhere. There the drinking age was 16! (Now it's 18) So everyone was drinking legally anyway. And by the time I returned back to "the world" I was 22 so there was no point in celebrating. :(

So if I recall correctly, I don't remember turning 21! :noidea:

I will never understand why your drinking age is so old!

The age limit for alcohol is based on research which shows that young people react differently to alcohol. Teens get drunk twice as fast as adults but have more trouble knowing when to stop. Teens naturally overdo it and binge more often than adults.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, which withheld a percentage of highway funds from any state that didn't raise the minimum drinking age to 21. Enforcing the legal drinking age of 21 reduced traffic accidents and protected young people’s maturing brains. This law continues to prevent tragedies by decreasing accidents by an estimated 16 percent.

Problem is, teenagers still continue to drink and drive which seems to go hand in hand around here. Just a few years back, 6 local teenagers lost their lives in accidents due to underage drinking and one of the underage drivers (aged 17), who survived, is presently fighting a life sentence in jail for vehicular homicide for being under the influence.

Sad. He was a star quarterback football player with a full scholarship. That was why he and his friends were celebrating. The person who purchased the liquor has been charged as well and is spending the rest of his life in jail. I think he was 25 and the older brother of the passenger who was killed.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I had a great day (well, weekend).

Yep, I'm 21 now Donna - should probably start acting it :p It's a little scary thinking my next 'milestone' is 30!

Happy birthday Tom! Hope it was a really great one :)

Wow though, it's really scary how time flies though. I remember when it was just us back over at Vista Forums wondering how to fix SFC corruptions. Seems like an eternity ago now....

Thanks, Richard! Had a lot of fun.

I remember it well - think it's safe to say we found our niche! I occasionally find old posts of ours at VF when researching an error and usually cringe at what I said :p I joined VF on 13/3/2010 (4 months after you), scary thinking it's over 5 years ago.

Damn... sorry for the delay.
Happy Birthday Tom. :thumbsup2:
