They are unrealistic in expecting to raise $100,000. Setting the bar that high could well put people off.

I don't think that lawsuit will reach the amount, it's just in case Enigma is ready to push it really, really far. I don't expect BC to raise $100k as well.

I guess Enigma Software expect this lawsuit to go through like the other ones they filled against small companies and forums. BleepingComputer is one of the major Computer Support and Malware Removal forum, deeply involved in the IT Security community so I doubt it'll be that easy this time.

Forgive me for bumping this old thread. However, I learned something the other night that resulted in getting quietman7's permission to publish this article: Support quietman7 in Enigma vs Bleeping Computer Lawsuit. If you aren't in a position to help (although every little bit adds up), please share in Twitter, Facebook or other social media sites. Thanks!

BTW, I did read somewhere that BC had raised over $70,000 toward their defense. Based on the cost/hour for attorney fees and the number of billable hours involved in preparing responses, affidavits, etc., it isn't unrealistic. Small-town lawyers may chare $100 to $200 an hour but lawyers in larger metro areas typically charge $200 to $400 an hour -- and even more if they have expertise in specialized areas!
