Hello,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and after a RAM stick failure, Windows update is no more working.
I run the System Update Readiness Tool and got the following CheckSUR.log:

Code:

fralken,
What about restoring it back to when it was working smoothly?
Then download the updates by doing the smaller ones first/rebooting/then doing the larger ones one at a time/once completed reboot again.

This is where I would start as I have run across this problem before by downloading all the updates at the same time.

Hello fralken, and welcome to Sysnative :)

Thanks for uploading that logfile, it really does help me know immediately what I am dealing with. This should be perfectly fixable. I just need to grab a little more data before we can begin the fix. So...

Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). If you have a Microsoft Account, SkyDrive could be a good choice: https://skydrive.live.com/

Finally, please provide me a link to the uploaded file.

With that information, I will put together a quick registry script fix, and we will go from there.

Thank you,

Richard

Hello,
Thank you very much for your quick responses!

@The Howling Wolves, your solution fixed my problem! I couldn't believe it was that simple.
I restored a previous system configuration (of the day before) and Windows Updates started working again.
In all my previous attempts the only thing I lost is the updates history, but I can live without that.

@niemiro, thank you very much for your help, but after restoring the configuration I re-run the System Update Readiness Tool and now CheckSUR.log shows no errors! No need to follow your instructions now.

Again, thank you very much for your preciuos help!
