I had to install a new HDD into my system after a previous one failed. I have updated everything to the max as far as I know :) I have the latest creative audio drivers by checking manually and by their auto tool that checks your system. I have the latest direct x and the latest graphics drivers from nvidia. I have no errors in my device manager and I can hear system sounds I can go to YouTube, I can also open up like TS3 and talk to my friends and they hear me and I hear them. The specific game I am trying to get to work is Delta Force Black Hawk Down. I open the game and no sound in menu or the game once it boots up. I am running everything as admin no sound options within game make a difference. I have also tried to disable the option under sound properties that allow applications to take control of my sound ability's. Now I have installed this game directly from the disks I have purchased and have the latest updates for the game installed. Now I have not since this problem started tried playing another full screen game, but prior to this like a few hours mass affect 3 had no problems playing sounds in game. I have a XFI gamer fatality pro card, on board sound is disabled in windows not bios. Any other information you need please ask otherwise ty for your time any help would be appreciated. Oh and BTW I found this site through 1 of your replies to another on a different site you seemed very helpful :)

Hi Korvan, welcome to Sysnative!

Now I have not since this problem started tried playing another full screen game, but prior to this like a few hours mass affect 3 had no problems playing sounds in game.

Do you mean to say that this problem has been happening in other games as well? Are you only experiencing this problem in Delta Force Black Hawk Down, or is it a general problem affecting several games? If it's affecting more than one game, please list all the games you can remember that are affected.

Delta Force Black Hawk Down is quite an old game (released 2003), designed for Windows XP 32 bit. I've had similar problems with games before, where the hardware I'm using is not supported by much older games. I'm currently looking into the problem to see if this is a common issue with this game on Windows 7, however I can suggest you try running the game in Compatibility Mode.

Locate the Program Files for the game, and locate the main executable for the game (I believe this is C:\Program Files\Novalogic\Delta Force Black Hawk Down\DFBHD.exe - I may be wrong). Right click on DFBHD.exe and select the Compatibility tab. Check the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP Service Pack 3. Click Apply > OK, and then try running the game.

Has this made any difference?

OK I am at work but let me clarify for you. I replaced my HDD and installed mass affect 3 game ran great sound and all. Then a few hours later the lil white flag on windows 7 said please adress an issue with your sound card so ok i click on it and sure enough there was an update for my soundcard from creative ok I updated the driver. I then went and installed BHD, I have ran BHD on windows 7, since 7 has come out. And I do have it running in compatibility mode. After installing BHD I open it up and 0 sound in anyway, But my sound works for everything else, since then I have not tried loading up Mass Affect to see if those sounds would work for only 2 games I have back and installed.

What Video card are you running?
ATI HD cards and the newer Nvidia cards have HD audio built into the card, sometimes if the game has a HD setting it'll try to use the HD on the audio card instead of the add in card.

I have a nvidia 8800 GTS, the game is so old the only options for audio in game is a 5.1 audio check box and 3 sliders for volume 1 for master 1 for sounds and 1 for in game music lol. But I did happen to look under the graphics just to see if there was anything that would stick out for audio and didnt see anything

Ok I have verified that Mass Affect 3 works perfectly fine, all sound crisp and perfect. But for some reason BHD has 0 sound. Now I will say that my copy of BHD was typically a torrent download because my disks were old and would not be read but I have my Original CD keys. Now I recently have bought CD fixer stuff because I am too cheap to spend 10 dollars on a new copy of game. Disks worked uninstalled everything re installed from disks and that worked still no sound to BHD. All other sounds work, checked firewall, anti virus, game settings, audio settings within creative and system, video settings, I am lost in this and usually takes something good to best me here. Again Ty to all who have responded and cant wait to see what we can come up with :)

Then a few hours later the lil white flag on windows 7 said please adress an issue with your sound card so ok i click on it and sure enough there was an update for my soundcard from creative ok I updated the driver.

Although I understand BHD wasn't installed at the time, aside from the notice about an issue with the sound card, were you having problems prior to the driver update? Have you tried rolling back to the previous driver?

I don't have either of those applications installed, I am an android lover :) As far as the update yea I have the latest update. I belong to a family a clan of sorts on BHD Veterans Of War, we have all the latest of anything related to the game hosted on our page through our server. Now only thing I can think of is my cdrom is being used to play the game now where as before I mounted my image. I dont have nothing but IDE and power running to my cd-rom, do I need an audio cable running from the cd-rom to my motherboard or would audio setting on cd-rom affect this. Otherwise all i can think of.

The audio should be read straight from the disk(or installed to the HDD)...

I believe you said you had it disabled in on of your prior posts.... but,

Windows->Control Panel->Sound

On the playback tab make sure everything is disabled except what you use for playback...

You could also monitor this page to see if the sound levels(bars on the right hand side) change at all when you play...
If you have a pair of headphones plug them into the onboard audio port or the one at the front of the case. (assuming front I/O audio goes to mobo)

Do you get any sound from that?

Ok Corrine cant roll back I just installed a new HDD so everything is fresh and the most up to date drivers for everything. And no I never had any issues with my card till I got everything back up and running. It is the only playback device listed restarting to enable onboard sound to test that.

Ok so yea I rebooted enabled on board sound and plugged headset to onboard and the BHD game sound works. Now Mass Affect and every other sound works through MY Sound card so theres really nothing wrong with the sound card <------puzzled lol

I am thinking that BHD cannot see your soundcard if that makes sense...

Rather that be from the new driver or BHD is missing some type of hook...

Let me look around for a bit to see if I can find anything that may help...
You can disable onboard sound if you wish.

Yea I already disabled it now whats weird is Its running from disks, Now typically with mounting a image u run more of a risk of missing or having a corrupt file but if it works on inboard yea its like the game isnt seeing the sound card, but it is so old and in the last 6 years never had this issue lol.

OK I solved my problem and this has never happened before. Creative installed an application called ALchemy I created a path for the game through that app and when I go back to mixer under sound now there is literally a volume control for BHD and i turned it up and booted up the game and BAM I had sound lol. Never had to do that before and I have always had that program installed. Ty to everyone for their responses and their time. I will be happy to contribute mine to help others :)

Glad you figured it out because I was hitting dead ends on research :r1:
