Hi, Ted. Welcome to Sysnative.

It appears from your initial post as well as the indication above regarding SFC, it appears that you came here for help with Windows Update issues. However, in reviewing the SecurityCheck and DDS logs provided, there are some issues that need to be addressed so let's take care of those first and then see where that leads us.

First, you have an outdated, vulnerable version of Java installed. Personally, I have found that I no longer need Java on my computer (see Java, The Never-Ending Saga). If you wish to keep Java, please update it to Java Version 7 Update 21, paying careful attention to pre-checked options that are not needed with the update.

I strongly suggest that you uninstall the registry cleaner, Registry Mechanic 10.0. Windows is a closed source system. Developers of registry cleaners do not have the core code of Windows 7 and are not working on definitive information, but rather they are going on past knowledge and experience. Automatic cleaners will usually have to do some guesswork.

Modifying registry keys incorrectly can cause Windows instability, or make Windows unbootable. No registry cleaner is completely safe and the potential is ever present to cause more problems than they claim to fix. Registry cleaners cannot distinguish between good and bad. If you run a registry cleaner, it will delete all those keys which are obsolete and sitting idle; but in reality, those keys may well be needed by some programs or windows at a later time.

Windows 7 is much more efficient at managing the registry than previous Windows versions. If you are very knowledgeable of the registry, you can use Ccleaner to delete keys left over when uninstalling programs. However, these few keys will not make 1 millisecond's difference in performance. If you run CCleaner or any other registry cleaner and do not know precisely what you are doing, you will have problems down the road. There are no gains to be had from using a registry cleaner and the risk is great.

Forget all the "wisdom" you learned about XP. Windows 7 is not XP and does not manage the registry the same as XP. For additional information, see the following articles:

Are registry cleaners necessary?

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode to your Desktop.
  • Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click Search.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.

Good job, Ted. Now, let's have AdwCleaner remove those items and run yet another tools which I have found is excellent as a follow-up.

Please rescan with AdwCleaner.
  • Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click Delete.
  • Everything that was found will be deleted.
  • Save any open files and approve the reboot. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found at C:\AdwCleaner[XX].txt where XX denotes the number of times the application has been run, i.e., S1

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Disable your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

Corrine, I am sending a rather large file to a client via Skype at this moment ... it will take 3 to 4 hours to completely send. Upon completion I will rerun Adwcleaner and follow your last instructions to the hilt. Thanks for helping and thanks in advance for your patience. I felt it was the right thing to do to inform you because I know this program will shut down Skype and everything else opened and then require a reboot. Your customer service is the BEST. Stay Tuned!

Thank you for the compliment, Ted, but please take your time. I'm merely helping you with the preliminary steps before calling on Richard or Tom to take a look at your CBS log. We'll finish cleaning up and thenwe'll move on to the other problems with your computer.

Excellent!

Please do the following to uninstall AdwCleaner.
  • Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click Uninstall
  • Confirm with yes

You can also delete the Junkware Removal Tool and SecurityCheck tools from your desktop.

Please tell us what prompted you to run the System File Checker and, in the meantime, I'll point our staff who analyze CBS logs here.

What prompted me to run the system file checker is I kept getting Blue Screens of Death on a virtually new computer where the memory dump would count up to 100 before the machine would shut down (not reboot). And when I uninstalled and applied the Block IE10 Browser Tool that Microsoft Offers, then Outlook 2007 Enterprise would not launch, stating that IE 4 or higher was required despite the Registry showing that it had been reverted back to IE9 Corrine :rofl12:

Hello :)

I wish you to download and run the System Update Readiness Tool from here: What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Save it to a convenient location so we can run it again later if needs be: save you another download :)
Then please upload another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder.

Also, create a new folder on your Desktop called IE_Logs. Copy the following files into it before zipping it up and uploading it too. Let x denote any version number of Internet Explorer.

C:\Windows\IEx_main.log
C:\Windows\Logs\IEx_*.log (e.g. IE10_NR_Setup.log, IE9_NR_Setup.log, IE10_HardwareCheck.log, etc.)

Thank you!

Richard

Hi, Ted. I'll point Richard or Tom this direction. Both have been very busy and probably missed your post.

The IE 'corruption' is still present in your CBS log so I would like to go back to IE8, then reinstall all of the updates again.

  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
