Hello, and welcome to Sysnative!

Can I please confirm the that there is a space between sfc and /scannow?

The command should be:

sfc /scannow

In addition, the scan will take approximately 15 minutes. If it completes in only a few seconds, the chances are that something has gone wrong.

Whatever happens, please send me your current CBS.log. I can go from there. In order to send me your CBS.log, follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to the saved log at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
2. Right-click on CBS.log and select Send To, and click Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Note: When you receive the message,
Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead? Yes/No
select Yes, and then note the name of the zipped file that you saved to the desktop.

Then, you may upload it to this forum. Click the "Reply to Thread" button, and then use the paperclip icon to attach the file to your next post.

Good luck!

You have done it perfectly :)

Thank you for uploading that file. I see a run of SFC from today, so that is perfectly new enough to be valid. The good news is that you don't have any significant problems.

SFC is only reporting one file as corrupt, settings.ini for your Windows Sidebar. This does not actually need fixing, and will never cause a problem. The reason for this is actually quite simple. SFC simply checks whether a file is different from how Microsoft created it. settings.ini stores which gadgets you currently have installed. Often these gadgets are installed by the factory which made your computer, rather than you personally. Either way, it isn't a problem, as all it means is that you have additional gadgets installed over what Microsoft supplies by default. Just having gadgets installed is no problem, and you can safely ignore your SFC warnings.

In addition, Microsoft have acknowledged this problem as not a problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947595

And so there is no problem with your computer :)

Is there a particular reason you ran SFC? Were you trying to fix some other problem, or just a checkup? If you do have another problem, feel free to create another thread elsewhere in this forum to get help with that.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Richard

Well the reason I ran this is my computer has been acting up and not starting after shutting down as well as not shutting down. It is also starting to lag and freeze often. I accidently overwrote my OS Vista with the new windows 8 beta version and had to buy the original cds to put the original Vista back on my computer. since then I have had problems.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems. Can I suggest that you post over in the Windows Vista/7 forum: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/17-Windows-7-Vista

I specialise in SFC/Windows Update issues, and I don't really know how to help you with your issue. You will receive the best help over there.

I wish you the very best of luck,

Richard

I would be happy to assist you in troubleshooting steps to resolve the startup and shut down problems. Please start a new thread in the Windows 7 / Vista forum as suggested by Richard, and we can proceed from there.
