I did have a question in regards to the rules of SysNative.

Question

Are politics allowed? With that asked, below is my "political" deal.

P.S. You can call me Thomas, Tom, Dread. :)

Within reason we'll allow political discussion but as that is not out primary purpose for being here if it starts taking too much time to moderate it'll be shut down:)

Sorry to hear about you current situation. Hopefully our elected officials will get their act together soon and you'll be back to work.
Good luck and keep us posted as to how things go with your particular Job Corps issue.
Regards
Randy

Just got out of a staff meeting, that includes Leadership & Crew Chiefs. Everything to do with Job Corp is still operational, it was the U.S. Forestry service that was being Furloughed, and not Job Corp.

So I guess you're stuck with me now! :p

Considering that our membership is not country-specific, it is probably best not to get too involved in political discussions.

I see no problem with politics as long as everyone is respectful.

@Corrine, politics regardless of country can be discussed by anyone. I find politics best discussed in relation to something else which makes the scope global.

I do agree that I don't want any heated discussions but, I see no problem with constructive discussions.

Related to the topic: My Aunt is a Federal Environmental Biologist and is also being affected by the shutdown, I haven't talked to her today but, she is probably in a similar boat as you Tom. (She is also based out of WA)

In my opinion the Gov't is a little too distracted with non-domestic affairs and needs to reevaluate their plan.

I agree with the respectful part, Laxer. Unfortunately, I've seen too many forum political discussions get out of hand.

Regarding the Government shutdown, I kept running into dead ends when writing my blog post about National Cyber Security Awareness month because the U.S. Gov. sites had warnings like this from the Consumer FTC site on Identity Theft:

Unfortunately, the FTC is closed due to the government shutdown.

I do agree but, respectfully we have a much stronger admin team than most those forums.

Plus, with you as our moral compass how could we go wrong?

Finally! Someone who agrees with me, and who isn't from Canada or the UK! :p

@ Corrine: I find outsider input to be more valuable because they see it from a 3rd Party Point of View. Gives a different insight. I find a lot of Americans don't really care about politics, as long as it doesn't affect them, they don't care.

@ Laxer: What part of WA State is she from? I live in Moses Lake / East Wenatchee. Glad to see someone loves the Pine State :)

Edit:

I agree, but it isn't the strength of the team, its the availability and passion. I've noticed something majorly different between SF/EF & SysNative; Admin Team is ACTIVE. They "mingle" with the newbies, and the advance. They don't sit on a high horse. I'm not bashing the SF/EF Staff, a lot of them are here, and there posting/helping, and I love them for it. I just find a more active admin team more appealing, much like a GM Staff (EVE Reference).

And I'm squared away till July 16th, 2014, which is my input day for Job Corps. I have funding until that day, but I plan to be out by Febuary/March. :)

She lives in Vancouver but often gets sent elsewhere.

I live in Portland so I am like your neighbor! :lolg:

Did you get really bad rain this weekend? There were rolling power outages all over N portland and we lost power for a bit here on the SW side.

Also regarding the SF/EF comment, they don't like us here anyway so....

Of course we "mingle", Tom. It is important for members to feel welcome and that their contributions are appreciated. Granted, we're not a huge site (yet) so that makes it easier and we can all be here all the time. Regardless, I can't see staff involvement changing.

55mph winds. Thats all. I'm hoping to be down in Portland some time in December. If you're old enough, I'll buy you a beer. :) I have friends in Portland, Grants Pass, and others.

Sadly, I won't be 21 until 6 months after that. :bored2:

We had record breaking rainfall for 3 days or so.

Luckily I am on top of the hill and wasn't really affected except for while I was at work.

Ahh dang! Yeah, we'll probably get a buttload of snow. I'll take pictures next time. You'll have to have dinner with a friend and I when I'm down there. :)

Just let me know, I am always up for dinner! :thumbsup2:

These Government shutdowns are simply ridiculous.

Jay Leno @ 1:24 brings up a good point -

Very funny.
Seems a shame that "Shutdown" doesn't also mean "Shutup".
Personally I could use the relief of the constant news cycle of these guys pointing fingers back and forth.

The shutdown is a joke...simply put, it's a way for politicians to jab other politicians at the expense of the American public. Plus, they shut it down, then pasted a bill to retro pay federal employees?? WTF - so what is the point....unscheduled paid holiday for federal employees...yeah! My tax dollars hard at work!
