Appears that my laptop's fan is not functioning. Temp reached 99°C and then shutdown.
Presently, air-conditioner running and two table-top fans blowing on unit and temp is at 54°C and slowly climbing.

Taking apart this laptop will be a real challenge. Wish me good luck.

Have tried some non-invasive methods which have not solved the problem.

If you don't want to take it apart compressed air in the vents usually works pretty well...

If you strip it down you should probably clean and repaste the CPU and GPU if it has one.

thanks.
for your general edification, I've been in computer hardware and software at all levels for several decades.

Sorry about that Karl,

Without knowing you personally I assumed a general level and went from there...

I haven't had a chance to play around with the new APUs due they tend to run hot?

APU's do run warm by nature. But can be well maintained of kept well pasted and clean.

I might just switch both of my computers to APUs but not 100% sold until AMD fixes this temp issue.

As much as I love AC, I won't be able to afford to keep it running.

An update:
Restore back to a restore point prior to install of manually downloaded Win 8 updates.
Let MS Windows Update update system.
This seemed to bring some improvement (strange, except I had seen a report on heat problems caused by one of the updates).

Still not satisfied, I disabled everything in CCleaner's Startup -> Windows and CCleaner's Startup -> Scheduled Tasks that had anything to do with Toshiba.
Toshiba's utilities sometimes cause problems. Note that the Win8 TaskManager does NOT list as much as you will find in CCleaner.

This seemed to help, but knowing that this alone will not disable some services that have been installed, then used AutoRuns to disable anything and everything from Toshiba.

My system now runs cool and without the fan continually running.

Bloatware is just horrible, I never understood why OEMs used it...

I was very happy when a friend bought a ASUS laptop and I discovered it came with no bloatware/asware!!!!
Back on topic, My laptop has also been running very hot and slow recently... You know the culprit? Windows update... Didn't even ask permission just started doing its own thing...

I discovered this after running countless scans and checking all my files over :banghead:

Unfortunately, my overheating problem has returned with a vengence,

Suspect that I may have been carelesss and installed the wrong driver from Toshiba.

Will be out until I've resolved the problem.

Temp rises so quickly that I shutdown the computer after only about two minutes as I don't care to wait until the temps are hot enough to boil water.

Are your CPU/GPU usages really high?

If you don't feel like playing with all the plugins you can try a usb bootable version of some linux destro and see if the temps continue...

Then again that's assuming the error is hardware or at the bios level...

Best of luck Karl, keep us updated!
