Long time no see gang. I thought I'd stop by and report that I'm moving to a new location and I'd let you guys get to see all the action. (This one is for you Corrine.) I'm moving to Michigan, so if any of ya are in the area please say hi! Oh and yeah, that huge office I own, it's only gotten bigger. You'll all get to see it before I shut everything down and it becomes a ghost town.

Anyways, take care everyone. May we speak soon again.

From one "M" state to another. Good luck on the move and pack up that equipment carefully.

So I promised pictures and here they are. I wasn't expecting them to turn out so bad, but oh well. Doesn't really matter.

This is my main desk. If I get some R&R, I'll post better daylight pictures.

This is the back corner of the room, this is also where I sleep. I removed the pillow and blanket for photo aesthetics but the floor is comfy to me and besides my bed isn't currently usable. That empty space was going to be for a loveseat but that never happened.

This is my second desk. Very minimal but still functional. The older looking HP is for my legacy games and the one on the right of it runs Linux.

These three are of my power delivery systems; main desk, second desk and TV entertainment center respectively.

I'll let you guys in on the progress as stuff gets shut down. Take care all!

Hey there gang. I finally have two pictures of my main desk being almost completely torn down.

Here I have my laptop side pretty all taken down. My desktop side not far behind.

Nothing really happening here just yet just took the power down from my entertainment center.

In post #4, is that a wide-screen TV to the right of your desk on the wall?

If so -- it looks HUGE and dwarfs the computer monitors!

How large is it? 60"?

Haha, it is a tv. But only 39". It's more the camera angle that makes it look like that. However, my next tv might be a 60" or larger.

So, I know I haven't updated lately, with work all wacky and relationship stresses, my laptop mostly went untouched. I kinda needed the alone time ya know. But now that I'm working again and spent some quality time with my best friend things are getting back to normal and I can finish packing.

P.s. The "box room" is a mess so no pictures in there until things get under control and are organized again.

A small word of advice. If your computer will be under your control the whole time, be sure to lay it on its side during transport so the motherboard is sitting horizontally and facing up with the CPU on top.

If you must transport the computer in the tower position, or if the computer will not be under your control during transport, then I recommend you remove the heatsink fan assembly. This is especially important if you have a large aftermarket cooler. If the computer encounters rough handling and bumpy roads, with the tower in the normal upright position, the heavy heatsink can put undue stress on the CPU socket and actually create micro-fractures in the motherboard, and in some cases, break the socket and come lose, then bang around inside the case for the rest of the trip. Not good.

In fact, just to be safe, I would remove the HSF assembly anyway.

Excellent advice, when I moved I pulled the GPUs and HSF off the mobo and kept everything in the passenger compartment of my car... :thumbsup2:

Hey there Digerati, Thankfully all three of those machines are just big box store computers, so no over sized GPUs to worry about or big heavy aftermarket coolers to take apart, but whats on my mind more than the towers is the monitors. Believe me, bubble wrap is my obsession. It's unfortunate that I will not get to decide what happens with my belongings, simply put my parents don't care how much I've spent or if it gets damaged; my dad's words to the T, "You don't need to spend a dime on moving supplies, stuff gets broken and that's the way it is."

As you can imagine, I won't stand that for a nanosecond and will box things the way I want them boxed.

The only other thing that I fear getting broken is my pottery, and you don't get between myself and my pottery, heads will yelled at to the end of the earth if any of that gets broken. (why?) They're handmade by me, they're not repairable due to the way they're constructed.

Well, being a military brat and having spent 24+ years in the military myself, I have moved more than my fair share of times - cross country several times and twice overseas. And several times within the same area. Your dad is right, "stuff gets broken and that's the way it is." Stuff gets lost too. That's what moving insurance is for which you can get for DIY moves, or if a moving company is packing and moving you, they should have.

It is usually best to pack your electronics in the original boxes they came in - if you still have them. Just don't seal/tape them up if a moving company is moving you. If you tape them up, they are considered "self-packed" and their insurance is not responsible. You might consider removing the hard drives and taking them with you in case they (and any personal data on them) get lost (or damaged). As for your pottery - best I can suggest is take pictures and again, if you want to wrap them in bubble wrap, that's up to you, but let the packers seal the boxes.

Yeah I'm trying to cover all my bases.

I guess what bothered me the most was how he said it nor the content.

Also we're more than likely to use a DYI service but not entirely sure since we didn't like what we saw about the company on the BBB.
