As Microsoft gears up for Friday's Windows 8 launch, it's whisperings about Windows 7 that have caught our attention. According to the latest rumors, Microsoft isn't planning to release a second service pack for Windows 7.

The Register cites sources close to Microsoft's sustained engineering team that say there are no plans a Windows 7 SP2, something people have been waiting on for a few months now. Apparently, Microsoft plans to keep updating Windows 7 with patches every month until Windows 7 support comes to an end.

Seems more than just a bit suspect to me. Considering the number of post SP1 (hotfixes, patches) updates already amassing and what this might mean to someone doing a clean install of Windows 7 in say, oh I don't know, 2020. May have to block out a day or two on your calendar.
Maybe they'll revert back to their post service pack roll up packages circa Windows NT. Or, maybe this is another means of leading all the horses to the all new water that is Windows 8. A bit passive aggressive me thinks.

Trouble,
Me thinks you are spot on but this old horse is not going anywhere near the waters of 8!

Corrine will be spending all night in front of Best Buy for her copy of 8. hehehe!
They are calling in crowd control as she and the 2 others are fighting over positioning.

I cannot recommend WSUS Offline enough: http://www.wsusoffline.net/

Saves so much time when installing updates. Do the downloads once, keep your store current, and then whenever you install a new computer, insert the DVD/memory stick, click start, and let Windows install every update super fast and without interaction.

I am quite familiar with this tool. If you run into any problems, I may be able to help (the most common is failed downloads - I can help you to fix up bad downloads causing the program to fail).

Yeah, anyone regularly building Windows 7 without integrating updates into the install source is crazy. It's worth noting that the mainstream support for Win7 doesn't even end until 2015, so there's ample time for a service pack to still be released. Just sounds like there's not one planned at the moment.
