Welcome to Sysnative James!
As Patrick has said, it's great to have you here! If you ever fancy learning about how Windows Update works, let me know :) [if I ask everyone, eventually someone will say yes!]
See you around :)
Richard
Perhaps you could do an article to post at WindowsTalk? That would be most welcome, Richard.
I'm currently knee deep in exams, but I would definitely consider it in a couple of weeks. In terms of Windows Update, I actually offer an invitation only taught course here at Sysnative which takes ~6-9 months to complete (very similar to a security school except it's about Windows Update). Obviously, there is quite a lot of material in that, and it wouldn't be feasible to try to cover everything I know about Windows Update in a single article.
Over the summer I'm planning on writing some very technical articles here about various aspects of Windows Update, along with a couple of easy to use self-help guides for OPs. What I could do is offer a more approachable version of one of the highly technical guides at your website. At a guess, I would probably write it on the System File Checker. There are already a million and one guides over the internet about how to use it and basic logfile interpretation (findstr on [SR]), and I would want to do something a bit different. I would probably target it at semi-technical amateurs who want to try to fix their own problems before seeking help. I could include an explanation of better ways of reading the logfiles, common exceptions to the rule (there are times when SFC reports corruptions best left unfixed), various pitfalls and traps best avoided, and ways not to replace a file. There's a massive amount of misinformation available on the internet about SFC, and I could perhaps explain away a couple of the myths, and give better ways to do things. Then, since your website doesn't have a forum of its own, I could redirect any complex cases not fixed by my guide to Sysnative.
Just off the top of my head without giving it considerable thought. What do you think?
Richard
