Bill Gates is a rich man. If he wanted, he could buy his three children as many iPads and Macs as they wanted. But he won't, because the Microsoft co-founder has banned his progeny from using Apple products.

Melinda Gates, Bill's wife, reaffirmed the family's longstanding commitment to not allowing Apple devices in their household in an interview on U.K. radio station Radio 4 this morning, according to a report by The Telegraph, saying her son and two daughters sometimes ask for Apple products, but they won't get them. Instead, the Gates children get Microsoft-made products, such as a Windows Phone 8 device instead of an iPhone or a Zune instead of an iPod.

"The wealth from our family came from Microsoft so why would we invest in a competitor?" she told the radio outlet.

JMH,
There was an old saying.."An Apple a Day will keep the Doctors away" so for Bill not letting his children use Apple products he is limiting his
children to all the crap that MS has put out.
Time for Bill to let the children test out the Apple products and in so doing not only the
kids can test new products but would allow Bill to see what the real world is making and his competitors are creating that are better than his stuff. IMHO

I am personally not a fan of apple products but I would never ban them...

Apple products tend to be more user friendly for simple things but after that they lose their leg up...

Ipod vs Zune I would probably side with apple, for music I like simplicity...

Macbook vs some MS laptop I would side with MS.

Tablets... If I wanted a tablet I would probably go with an Ipad however, I would much rather have an ultrabook with a touch screen(MS)

Cell phones... After Windows Mobile 6.5 MS in the phone world has sucked it up... Iphones also suck it up... I would be going with an android until something turns itself around...

I think it's a rather stupid move of his preventing his children the freedom to choose but it is his family which of course makes his judgment the only important one...

Microsoft and Apple have had a fairly longstanding business relationship - I imagine this is public relations rather than anything more vindictive.
