I built a new computer and installed W10 1709 on 8/21/18. The CPU is AMD 2700x and the MB is Gigabyte Aorous Gaming 7 WiFi.
I only hooked up the WiFi antenna and did not use the ethernet cable and immediately noticed that the WiFi continually disconnects and after awhile it reconnects. Trying to download files from the internet is futile since it gets a portion of the way through and disconnects. Also when accessing a file on any of my other computers to transfer, it gets about a third of the way and dies. Hooking up the ethernet seems to work fine, no disconnects.
Anyway, that led me to looking around and when I opened Reliability Monitor it shows that "WMI Provider Host" crashed on the original install and ALL subsequent boots/reboots and continues to do so. Anyone have a clue what is going on?
Hmm, I tried inserting 2 images and they are not showing up.

IPlease follow the steps below to help troubleshoot your system. Let me know if you have any questions.

Step 1:
Download Speccy to your desktop

1. File > Publish Snapshot. This saves your snapshot to their servers
2. Copy and Paste the link to your next Reply

Step 2:
1. Click on Start menu
2. Type command to start searching
3. Right click on command prompt in list and select Run as Administrator
4. Copy and Paste each the commands 1-2 below into the command prompt and press Enter key

1. sfc /scannow (best to run 2-3 times, rebooting after each time)

2. (Windows 8 or higher)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

If any Errors are found with sfc /scannow then:
Copy and Paste the following command, and press ENTER:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
This will copy sfcdetails.txt to your desktop
Upload sfcdetails.txt file

Step 3:
1. Press the Windows + X keys to open the Advanced menu
2. Select Windows Powershell (Admin) from the menu
3. Copy and paste the command below in the code box and press Enter
4. This will create file called drivers.txt on your Desktop
5. Upload the file to your reply
Code:
Get-WmiObject Win32_PnPSignedDriver| select devicename, driverversion, driverdate, deviceID | Sort-Object devicename | Format-table -AutoSize | out-file "$env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\drivers.txt"

Upload the drivers.txt file from your Desktop

Please do Step 3 again but use the following command. I need to clean it up some to be readable.

Get-WmiObject -ClassWin32_PnpSignedDriver | where-object {$_.Driverdate -ne $null } | Sort-ObjectDescription | Select-Object@{Label="Description";Expression={$_.Description}},@{Label="DriverVersion";Expression={$_.DriverVersion}},@{Label="DriverDate";Expression={$_.ConvertToDateTime($_.DriverDate)}},@{Label="DeviceID";Expression={$_.DeviceID}} | Format-table -AutoSize| out-file "$env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\drivers.txt"

This is what I get using the new cmd-

PS C:\Windows\system32> Get-WmiObject -ClassWin32_PnpSignedDriver | where-object {$_.Driverdate -ne $null } | Sort-Objec
tDescription | Select-Object@{Label="Description";E...n={$_.DeviceID}} | Format-table -AutoSize| out-file "$env:USERPROF
ILE\Desktop\drivers.txt"
Sort-ObjectDescription : The term 'Sort-ObjectDescription' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script
file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct
and try again.
At line:1 char:87
+ ... re-object {$_.Driverdate -ne $null } | Sort-ObjectDescription | Selec ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (Sort-ObjectDescription:String) [], CommandNotFoundException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException

BTW, I should add that I was in contact with Gigabyte support before I posted here and they had no idea what the WMI error meant so their solution is to tear down the computer and RMA the board.
It's late here so I will look tomorrow to see your response.
Thanks so much for looking at this for me.

Sorry about that. I was in kind of a hurry and did not double check it posted correctly. Lets try one more time with the following command for Step 3 above.

Code:
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_PnpSignedDriver | where-object {$_.Driverdate -ne $null } | Sort-Object Description | Select-Object @{Label="Description";Expression={$_.Description}}, @{Label="DriverVersion";Expression={$_.DriverVersion}}, @{Label="DriverDate";Expression={$_.ConvertToDateTime($_.DriverDate)}}, @{Label="DeviceID";Expression={$_.DeviceID}}, @{Label="Manufacturer";Expression={$_.Manufacturer}}| Format-table -AutoSize | out-file "$env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\drivers.txt"

Step 4:
1. Download the Sysnative BSOD Dump + System File Collection App - save to Documents folder -
SysnativeBSODCollectionApp.exe - Sysnative

2. Run the app - Double-click on the downloaded EXE file
Output = new folder created in Documents + a zipped version -- SysnativeFileCollectionApp folder + SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip.

Lets work on the wifi issues first and then we can see about the wmiprvse.exe errors and a few other things. Also are you using the full or free version of Malwarebytes? If full, please uninstall while troubleshooting.

Based on your motherboard website you are using a newer version of the intel dual band wireless-ac 9260 driver 20.70.0.5 6/25/2018

The one on the MB site is 20.60.0.7 2018/05/21. It may be worth uninstalling your current driver and installing this one to see if it works better. I recommend creating a Restore point first so you can easily revert if needed. I also see some other drivers that have updates as well. Update all drivers from the link below.

X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI (rev. 1.0) | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global

Thanks, a couple of questions before I start though.
1- Yes I downloaded the free Malwarebytes and it immediately started the Premium trial which ends in 5 days. I assume that I should just completely uninstall it and start over whenever you give the go-ahead?
2- As to the intel dual band wireless-ac 9260 driver 20.70.0.5, I originally installed 20.50 from the MB DVD and when I contacted Gigabyte Esupport about the wireless problem they said to not use the driver on their website but to go directly to Intel to get the latest driver instead so I assume they knew that their driver was out of date. Should I D/L and install theirs anyway?
3- I'm not sure which drivers I need to download. I will have to use another computer and transfer them by USB since this one just gets about a third of the way and dies. Also I notice that they are zip files and do I need to uninstall any drivers beforehand or do the newer drivers just update the previous driver on all of these.
4- Do I need to update the chipset and also BIOS?
Sorry for all the questions but as you can tell, I'm not that proficient.

1. No to uninstall MBAM follow the guide in link below.

Malwarebytes Removal guide
https://support.malw...m/docs/DOC-1034

or you can Deactive the Trial version as follows
Open Malwarebytes. Go to Settings > My Account, then click on Deactivate Premium trial.

2. Usually it is best to install the latest from the device mfg website but not always. You can try first completely removing your existing driver and reinstalling the same one to see if that helps. If not, then i would install the latest version from the MB site and see if any changes. Make Restore points so you can easily go back if needed.

3. Yes, please uninstall the driver first from with Device manager but do not Restart your computer until after installing the new driver. In the link below you want to download the very first or top driver.

Downloads for Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9260

How to properly update or reinstall Drivers:
1) Use wired connection or another computer the computer to the internet if needed
2) Turn off wireless if available
3) Download a new copy of the Intel wireless driver to the desktop from the Intel website.
4) Using device manager uninstall the driver
5 reinstall the driver that was saved to the desktop

4. For now do not update the Bios.

Let me know if any more questions.

The very first/top driver 20.70 is the Bluetooth driver, is that all I need ( in other words don't I need both of them and if so which to uninstall/install first )? The reason I ask is that when I originally updated the wireless driver & the Bluetooth driver I used the "Intel Driver and Support tool" which updated both wireless and Bluetooth at the same time.
It looks like it left a copy of the exe's in a folder in downloads for the tool.

I followed your directions and Deactivated the MalwareBytes Premium trial also.

Yes both sorry I thought they were both included. Uninstall both drivers and then install the WiFi driver first then Bluetooth.

Today I downloaded the BT and Wireless exe’s 20.70.0.5 and went to device manager and right clicked to uninstall the intel dual band wireless-ac 9260 driver and checked the box for uninstalling the software. I did the same for Blue Tooth. I didn’t reboot.
I went to the desktop and activated the wireless software and the selections that came up were Repair, can’t remember the 2nd one, and uninstall so I clicked on Repair to reinstall.
Same scenario with the BT driver software. Then I rebooted and had to re-connect with my home network which went fine.
Next, I deleted both of the Intel exe’s from the desktop.
I brought up Chrome and went back to the intel download site and tried downloading the 118 MB wireless file again. It got to 111 MB and stopped so after a couple of seconds I opened the download tab and clicked Pause. After approx. a minute or so, I clicked resume and it finished the download.
I’m wondering if maybe Gigabyte’s support guy may be right and there is something wrong with the wireless controller. He suggested that I tear the computer down and RMA the MB.
I still don’t know if the WMI Provider Host error I get at bootup has anything to do with all this.
Any suggestions??

This is possible and your choice or we can try a few more things as follows: I do not thing the wmi errors have anything to do with it. Do you have another computer and if so does it work correctly over wifi? Have you tested with other browsers as well?

Step 1:
DownloadMiniToolBox and save it to your desktop

  1. Right click onprogram and select Run as Administrator
  2. Select to RunAll options
  3. Click Go and waitpatiently
  4. After itcompletes (a reboot may be needed)
  5. MTB.txtwill be saved on your desktop
  6. UploadMTB.txt file to your next reply

Step 2:
Download and run Tcpview: https://live.sysinte...com/Tcpview.exe
Run itby right clicking and select Run as Administrator
SelectFile > Save As "to your Desktop, tcp , OK.
Thisshould createa file tcp.txt on your desktop.
Attachor copy and paste it to a reply.
Repeatfor more then one network.

Go to SpeedTest.net:Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Click GO to run Test
Click on ResultsLink
Copy the link toyour reply
Verify that theresults are consistent to your plan
Is that about whatyou paid for?

Step 3:
Either perform a clean boot as follow or start in Safe mode with Networking and test the download to see if it works better.

View attachment MTB.txtView attachment tcp.txtThere are 4 other computers in the house and none of them has the internet problem that this one does so it is inherent to just this new one. I have tested with Chrome and IE 11, same results.
Speed test results from this computer Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test and also Speedtest by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test (Results from my Win 7 computer are Ping= 49, Download= 13.72 Mbps, Upload= 7.81 Mbps) so this Win 10 computer is slower than my win 7 computer.
I haven't tried Safe mode with this Win 10 computer yet since I will have to figure out how to do it. I've read that F8 is no longer the method.
Sorry, looks like I didn't do the attachments correctly (I put them inline) but there are 2 seperate attachments so if you have problems opening them let me know and I will re-attach them.
Thanks.

Well, I got to safe mode with networking but evidently Safe mode with networking needs ethernet, it will not connect or even show wireless, it's like the wireless has disappeared. There is no way to connect to the internet with just wireless in Safe Mode with networking!!!
