Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Could you please run the System Update Readiness Tool, and the export and upload your CBS folder to your next post. If the CBS folder is too big, upload it to a free file sharing site such as SendSpace -> Free large file hosting. Send big files the easy way!

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft --> here <-- Please save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  2. After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  3. Click Yes to begin installation. Please note it may take some time to complete and may appear to stall whilst installing. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behaviour. Also note, whilst I say "installing", it's actually running the tool and can therefore be "installed" (run) repeatedly.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button :startorb: then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this new file to your next post.

Regards,
Stephen

Dear Stephen, The Windows web site will not let me download the SURT for Windows 7 64 bit (November 2013) download. It times out with the message 'this page cannot be displayed'. I have tried it several times, with no success. Is there any way you can download it and send it as an attachment?

I was able to copy the CBS file however, and am sending that if it can be of any help! I'm not sure how to send the attachment. Do I use the insert image icon or the insert video icon. I'll try the insert image icon. I'm not sure how to even send this post. Do I click on Post Quick Reply?

Hello,

For the record, please try this link for SURT and tell me if it works:

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [November 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Regarding the attachment, you will need to go to the Advanced Editor. Below the quick reply box at the bottom of this page, you will see 3 buttons. Click the one labelled "Go Advanced" to bring up the advanced editor. Then click on the paperclip icon to open the attachment manager.

No, that site does not work. The browser times out. I'm using IE 11. Would a different browser make a difference?

Hopefully this time I can send you the CBS.zip file.

It seems I'm having trouble uploading the zip file as it is 7.66 Mb and a popup appears that says I'm exceeding the limit of 7.15 Mb for your site. Now what?

Thank you.

Let's try SURT again. I've uploaded SURT to my SkyDrive here: https://avweua.dm2303.livefilestore...ndows6.1-KB947821-v31-x64.msu?download&psid=1

Steve, when I click on your link I get the following message: I've tried several times.

[TD="align: left"] The webpage cannot be found

[TD="class: errorCodeAndDivider, align: right"] HTTP 404

  • There might be a typing error in the address.
  • If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

Well, I'm able to access your Skydrive, but am not able to download the file. When I right click on the file, the share option is greyed out. Perhaps you need to tell Skydrive to share that file with my email address, which is {removed}?

Both of your url's work and give me access to the file, but no success in downloading it on either site.

Share isn't the right button for the job in this case. When you right click, you should be offered a "Download" button. Try that one instead. Or do you not get offered a Download button?

Richard

P.S. I've removed your email address before spam bots get to it.

Thank you for removing my email Richard. Yes I was offered a download button and yes I did press the download button. Usually I get an option to open or save the file, but in this case nothing appears (happens). I'm at a loss. I've tested my ability to download from other web sites and my ability to download seems to be operating OK. I just can't seem to download from your Skydrive site! What about trying to use that Sendspace site, unless you have another suggestion.

The problem is that SURT is a big, half a gigabyte file that takes me all day to upload to anywhere because my internet is slow.... And being such a big file, it is too big for most sites. Sendspace for example has a 300MB size limit.

Since I can view the edit history of your post, I found your email address. Please check your email for a link and try from that link. It will not being coming from a @sysnative email address, rather my personal one - ****[AT]btopenworld[DOT]com (information before the @ sign blanked for spambot reasons)

OK. Will watch for it. So far no email from that address in either my Inbox or my Junk folder.

OK, Stephen or Richard or whoever I am working with; I tried three browsers and the third one worked, namely, Safari. It allowed me to download the SURT file from your original location and it was the November 2013 edition (436MB). My computer said it installed successfully.

Hi,

I'll be helping you primarily, but Richard may pop in now and again.

That's awesome news! Can you now do the following

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    startorb.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
