Windows Update error

Hello everybody,
I would be glad if someone could help me with my Windows Update issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64.

I'll try to describe the chain of events :
I have an Asus laptop that tends to overheat. I sent the laptop to the technical service before Christmas and got it back one week ago.
They replaced the HDD, and the PC seems to cool down ok.

The hardware seemed to work fine and I started to install programs ; after a while I tried to run Win Update...
1 The Update window took forever to open (5-6 min), and prompted the red shield ("check for updates for your computer")
2 When I clicked on the button, it said that the service is not running, and that I might need a restart.

I did obey, with no luck.
As the techies had installed Win 7 in Spanish (I live in Spain so it is an honest mistake), I decided to perform a factory reboot from the hidden partition (in order to reinstall Windows in English, and to fix Win Update).

It worked flawlessly (or so it seemed) : I now have Win 7 in English, but windows update is still not working.

1 I downloaded Fixit, it performed some fixes and said that everything was okay (but of course it would be too easy)
2 I also tried to erase the Win Update history files in /Windows, no luck...

I ran sfc /scannow, and attach the results...

Thanks a lot in advance, I hope someone can help me to fix this without having to send it back to the technical service...
Bye!

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative :)

Let's just go and check everything.

First, can you please open an Elevated Command Prompt: How to start an Elevated Command Prompt in Windows 7 and Vista

and copy and paste in:

net start MSIServer
net start BFE
net start BITS

net start WUAUSERV
net start TRUSTEDINSTALLER
net start vss
net start sppsvc

and press enter after the final line. Please note down the message you received, if anything but "The {Service Name} service was started successfully." or "The requested service has already been started.", and for which service the error occurred.

Thank you!

Richard

Thanks :D
And thank you for your quick answer!

I've just run the commands in Admin :

net start MSIServer ->OK (starting/started successfully)
net start BFE ->Already been started*
net start BITS ->OK

net start WUAUSERV ->Already been started*
net start TRUSTEDINSTALLER ->OK
net start vss ->OK
net start sppsvc
->OK

* : here I get "more help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182"
I've tried to type it -out of curiosity- and I get "The requested service has already been started".

Bye,
Yann
