I have read some of your threads but i think mine is a little different. I have a Raid 1 set up in my Windows 7 64 bit machine. i had a hard drive crash, i replaced the hard drive and re-mirrored the raid volume. this is when windows update stopped working and i receive pop up messages that my copy of windows is not genuine.

If i unplug 1 hard drive and boot up then windows update works just fine. shut down reconnect the drive and volume repairs itself and then windows update stops working again.

my wifes machine, did the same thing after replacing a hard drive in the raid volume.

the 2 computers are identical in every aspect. let me know if you need any info about the machines.

i have tried the system update rediness tool only to get an error 0xc8000247

thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Dave :)

What error code do you get from Windows Update? Have you ensured that your storage controller, RAID, etc. drivers are up to date? Out of date storage controller drivers in particular can cause a surprising number of Windows Update issues....

0xC8000247 is certainly an error code I would associate with storage controller issues, although that isn't exactly news: we know its a drive issue.

when i try to run windows update with both drives in the volume pluged in i have to start the task manager to shut down control panel because windows update never starts. then soon after a message pops up that windows explorer has stopped working, i click ok, all the desktop icons dissapear then reapear and seam normal. i have had all the windows update problems as described in the other feads.

as far as the storage controller goes, the issue start as soon as i replaced a failed hard drive. intel had a newer Matrix Storage Manager but this was not as simple to use as what i had so i switched back. with everything in working order and a few months passed i then had the hard drive failure.

Richard,

I just checked Intel's site and there is an updated Raid driver, I will get this installed to see if it makes a difference. when you first asked, I was just thinking about the Matrix Storage Manager software, not the actual driver. I actually have 7 computers all identical in hardware except 2 which are having the problem and both of them had the hard drive failure. They are also the only 2 with 1 TB drives and the rest of them have 360 gig drives.

all fixed, so far.....after updating the Raid driver my windows update seems to be fixed. thanks for the help, i wish i would have know this 6 months ago. i might still have hair.

thanks Richard

Thanks for letting me know, and I am really glad that your problem is now solved :)

Sorry about my delay in responding. It has been another really busy week :(
