When I try to install the Windows Server Backup role or install Windows Updates i get this error 0x80073701. Checking the CBS.log I see this :

2019-03-25 21:38:06, Error CSI 00000009 (F) STATUS_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING #41955# from CCSDirectTransaction::OperateEnding at index 0 of 1 operations, disposition 2[gle=0xd015000c]

2019-03-25 21:38:06, Error CSI 0000000a (F) HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING) #41803# from Windows::ServicingAPI::CCSITransaction::ICSITransaction_PinDeployment(Flags = 0, a = Microsoft-Windows-BLB-Deployment-LanguagePack, version 10.0.14393.0, arch amd64, culture [l:5]'ko-KR', nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, cb = (null), s = (null), rid = 'Microsoft-Windows-BLB-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~ko-KR~10.0.14393.0.WindowsServerBackup', rah = (null), manpath = (null), catpath = (null), ed = 0, disp = 0)[gle=0x80073701]

It appears there is an issue with the Korean language pack, but I'm not sure how to fix this. I've done SFC scans and reset the Windows Update Catalogs. Reinstalling and removing the KR language pack doesn't help either. The only language pack I want at the end is the English pack.

There is another thread on this forum that seems to have solved this issue, but the fix seems specific to their language pack. Here is the thread: [SOLVED] - Error 0x80073701 w/Windows Update & New Roles/Features Add (Win Server 2016)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome!

This is an extremely complex error to resolve, so be patient, please :-)

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Go ahead and attempt to install the role.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log

Hmm well this is the error now when I try to install the role/feature.

Hi!

Okay, I've started working on this:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Well that looks like progress. I just looked through the CBS.log and didn't see anything referencing the KR language pack. Unless I missed it.

I am going to need a ProcMon capture :)

Oh I guess I missed that error. I'm working on this on off hours so I'll send you the ProcMon capture this evening.
