My windows server is unable to recieve updates. When I run windows update, I get error code 0X80070002 as shown below:

View attachment 3577

I run SFC and it reported that it found some errors some of which it was unable to fix. I have also downloaded the System Update Readiness Tool and run that a few times. The CBS logs are attached. I'm at a point were I can really use some help getting this resolved. I believe this problem is related to memory that had failed and was replaced a few weeks ago.

Incidentally, I get the same error code when I try to view "Roles" or "Features" in the ServerMmanager. I would like to resolve this without resorting to a re-install of the OS.

Thank you in advance for all the help.

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative :)

This fix is going to have to be done in several parts. You will therefore not notice an immediate improvement after just the first part. Please stick with me, and I'll see what I can do :)

Can you please confirm that you are using a x64 English language build.

Unfortunately, I currently do not have a Server 2K8R2 disk to hand in order to extract a bit of necessary data off. I need a day or two to download the trial (we don't deal with many server machines here so I am not always fully ready when we do get one).

I should, however, be able to send round the first part of the fix tonight if I get time, as that I can do that without a disk.

Thank you for your patience,

Richard

Hi Richard,

What would you like from the 2K8R2 disc? I can download it in 5 minutes or so :) Done.

Richard and Tom, thank you for the responses. The machine is functional so I'm in no hurry, I'm just trying to get it resolved before it gets worse. I can confirm that it is X64 English Build (I believe all R2 builds of the server version are all 64 bit)

@Tom, thank you very much for the offer, but actually, this time, I think I will download it myself (eventually!), so I have it for next time. But thank you.

Yes...no x86 build AFAIK, but there is a IA64, I think???

Anyway, thanks for the confirmation.

Hello again :)

The first script is ready.

WARNING: This fix has been created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions as you may cause serious harm to your computer.

Download a copy of SFCFixScript.zip attached to this post, and save it to your Desktop.

Then download a copy of SFCFix.exe from here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/downloads/sfcfix/, and also save it to your Desktop.

Single click on SFCFixScript.zip and drag and drop it on top of SFCFix.exe. SFCFix will open and perform a fix.

A logfile called SFCFix.txt will open (and be saved to your Desktop). Please copy and paste the report into your next reply.

Thank you!

Richard

Hello Richard,

Thank you for your reply. I followed your directions above, however I get an error that "The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace exe tool for more detail." This happens as soon as I drag the SFCFixScript.zip file onto SFCFix.exe.

Error2.JPG

Is there a way around the script? I have tried disabling the anti virus and downloading the files again but I get the same result.

The visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable package (x86) failed to install with the following error:

Error3.JPG

Could it be because this is a 64 bit machine?

It is not due to you having a 64bit computer. It is quite alright for the x86 package to be installed on a x64 computer. In fact, SFCFix will only work off the x86 package.

SFCFix is a x86 application (which runs off WOW64 on x64 computers), and so needs x86 redistributables on both architectures. The advantage of this is that it allows a single .exe to work on both architectures without using any messy methods.

Your problem is caused by another corruption. Please upload a new CBS folder, and I'll take a look at why.

Error code 1935 is incredibly generic and it is impossible to fix off the error code alone.

And if it comes down to it, I can always use a non-SFCFix method to apply the fix anyway.

Richard

Thanks Richard for the clarification. I re-run the SURT, here is a new zip of the CBS folder.

Hello again :)

Please delete any copies of SFCFix you may have lying around. There was a bug in the version you were using which was causing the Side by Side errors. Fingers crossed it is now fixed. So...please download a new copy: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/downloads/sfcfix/

and try exactly the same fix as given in post #6: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...e-not-working-error-0x80070002.html#post42737

Good luck!

Richard

A quick update (as much to keep my head straight as yours). This really is a multi-part fix!

SFCFix script designed to deal with 10 of the 12 registry errors from CheckSUR.log.
SFCFix script also designed to deal with 2 of 2 file system corruptions, but these may fail and so need to be done manually.
This leaves 2 unfixed CheckSUR.log registry corruptions (which we'll fix as soon as I succeed in putting together the fix)
And 1 registry corruption from CBS.log (which we'll do manually).
And your error code 1935 which we'll deal with at the end if necessary (it could well be caused by the above corruptions and be fixed with them)

That's the masterplan :p

Richard

Thanks Richard! I run the revised SFCFix script and it worked :smile9:!! The is it's log (SFCFix.txt):

Yes...please post a new CheckSUR.log so I can check my progress. I just need to track down a final little bit of data.
