Hi, Claude.

If I am understanding correctly, when you attempted to attach the requested file, you received the forum message that the file was too large. Was this with the created the zip file according to the instructions copied below?

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

If you have a Microsoft Account, you should be able to upload the file to SkyDrive (being renamed OneDrive). Otherwise, you could also upload it to Dropbox:

Upload a file to Dropbox

Note: If you prefer, the same techniques can be applied to your Skydrive however these instructions may not necessarily work for Skydrive.

  1. If you haven't already created a Dropbox account, please do so Here
  2. Although this procedure can be done directly through the website, it is much easier to do so via the Windows client which can be downloaded from the Dropbox website:

    https://www.dropbox.com/install
  3. After you have downloaded and installed that, you should now see Dropbox in your Favorites box in Windows Explorer. This is the folder that will be synchronized with the Dropbox servers, anything that you wish to back up online can be put in here, but today we will be using it to transfer files.

    Favourites%20list.PNG
  4. To access your Dropbox folder, just click on the link in the top left hand corner of Windows Explorer (accessible from any location - Documents etc.). Alternatively, you can double click on the icon
    icon.jpg
found in your system tray (next to the time). If you are still having issues locating this folder, unless otherwise specified, it can be found under this location: C:\Users\{Your username}\Dropbox
  5. Copy the CBS.zip file that you created according to the above instructions to the Public folder in your Dropbox:
    • c:\gdg\UserData\Desktop\CBS.zip
  6. Right-click on this file and select
    icon.jpg
Copy Public Link then Paste (Ctrl+V) this link into your next post, please.

Hello dzerpapa, welcome to Sysnative!

Firstly let me congratulate you on being the member with the largest CBS log in history :p You have a 3GB CBS.persist log, with a grand total of 11,847,831 lines! No wonder it was too big to attach here!

Can you download and install the System Update Readiness Tool please?

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [November 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Post the log when finished:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thank you Tom for your help, I hope that I can be back with better news!

Claude

Hi Claude,

I'm sorry to hear that! Do you have a friend or family member who you could borrow a disc from? It has to be 32 bit Windows Vista and a retail disc - ie one that came from the shops and isn't specific to a manufacturer. It will look something like this:

Hi Claude,

Thanks for the log, I'm a lot closer to the cause now! The errors in that log are very specific and are very helpful to us. Is this a work computer?

Tom

Hi Tom,

By now... yes!
But it's obsolete for my job and it will be mine soon... if it become to be good enough!

Are there a problem for you about that?

Thank you Tom

Claude

Hi Claude,

Great! I'm so glad you said that!

It's no problem at all that this is a work computer, but in larger companies updates are delivered slightly differently than on personal computers and I suspect one of the settings for this is wrong. Let's have a look:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt

  4. This will create a text file called tom982.txt in the root folder of your main drive (e.g. C:\tom982.txt). Please copy and paste the contents of this into your next post.

Finaly I found how to delete the password... I do it! But in administrator user, there is only : Run... there is no "Run as administrator "
In the black windows... if I paste that : reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt
A message said that reg is not a command key or something like that.
I don't know exactly what you mean by : copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

Sorry if I'm to poor in informatic...

Hi Claude,

Not to worry, this is probably a policy restriction put on by your employer.

Forget about Command Prompt for now, I have found an alternative (easier) way to do this. Please download the attached batch file, Fix.bat, to your Desktop. Double click on this to run it. A User Account Control popup will appear, accept this. When it finishes running, it will open a file, tom982.reg, found on your Desktop. Copy and paste the contents of this file into your next post please.

Tom

P.S. Thanks to Eneerge for the batch file.

Hi Tom,

Well... when I try to open fix.bat, my antivirus blocks it and said there is a malware : trojan horse!
