This has been a nagging problem for quite sometime that I randomly try and tackle by myself to no avail and every forum post/microsoft "solution" doesn't work. I have tried everything from clean booting the machine, disabling Anti-Virus, Scanning for Malware, Deleting Temp Files, Renaming Software Distribution Folder, Using the System Update Readiness tool, Microsoft Fix-it tool, Run CC Cleaner. Disabled Windows Update in services...etc. Any help would be apreciated.

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Sorry you are having so much trouble with this. Sadly, you told us nothing about your system. For example, a notebook or PC? What version of Windows?

At this point, all I can suggest is this: Windows Update error 80070002

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative :)

Disabled Windows Update in services

If it's still disabled, please re-enable it, as Windows Update cannot function without it.

Otherwise, please:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

And I'll take a look at which file is missing. You'll probably have a couple of errors in CheckSUR.log which will need addressing.

Thanks!

Richard

Thanks for the help so far, hope we can iron this out this nagging problem of mine ASAP.

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Hello :)

Right, I've found the problem. First, I would like to express my surprise at SURT not detecting any errors. So I looked at CBS.log, and at first glance, it's a simple case of the missing registry key \Registry\Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_microsoft-windows-fatformat_31bf3856ad364e35_none_a61c05ff0d5f0a5a. So we recreate the key & the problem is resolved.

But on second glance, things are not nearly as simple as that. amd64_microsoft-windows-fatformat_31bf3856ad364e35_none_a61c05ff0d5f0a5a isn't meant to exist. The name should be amd64_microsoft-windows-fatformat_31bf3856ad364e35_none_a61c05ff0d5f0a1a (how I know that is far from simple & cannot be discussed right now). This is also part of the reason SURT didn't detect any errors.

So...the actual problem is not anything missing at all, but a location in the registry where the 1 flipped to a 5. Let's go hunting :)

Then please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). If you have a Microsoft Account, SkyDrive could be a good choice: https://skydrive.live.com/, but any other will do just fine. Make sure to set the file as publicly accessible.

Then send me a link to the file.

Thank you!

Richard

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Was thinking about what you said and about what may have caused this issue, only thing that comes to mind is using CC Cleaner. I've never manually edited any registry entries but I guess with the complexity of the issue at hand changing one of the values around back to what its supposed to be is out of the question. Hope you are able to come up with a remedy and if there is anything else you want me to do/try lmk.

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

I know it isn't much but also in the past i've had issues with games for microsoft windows to the point where my admin/default account wouldn't run them without a critical error it gotten to the point where the only way I could play was if I created a new Windows Log-in as a work-around. And right before it got to the point where I would get there error there was 3 of the same windows updates that would loop and keep popping up even after i'd click on them to install over and over. I wish I had the specific error codes and updates (that wouldn't update) but its the best I can do/think of to help remedy this situation.

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Just ended up just re-installing Windows7 and now everything works fine (for now), I was going to do this earlier in the week but my Recovery CD was damaged enough where it wouldn't read on boot-up so that's why I decided to tackle the problem head on to no avail and I came here. I got the CD resurfaced for like $4 and its good as new...something I should have probably done earlier but sometimes I like to actually fix and figure out problems that nobody else seems to have but I didn't have any luck with that so I took the chicken way out

Huh? Why did you do that? Was it scratched? You did not say your drive was unable to read the disk, or did I miss something?

Although $4 is not much, for future reference, plain white toothpaste and a clean thumb work great for polishing out scratches in CDs, DVDs, and BluRay disks (and watch crystals too). Just be sure to wash the disk thoroughly and dry with a clean microfiber cloth before using. Of course, if the scratch is so deep it cuts into the data substrate layers - the disk is hosed.

Normally I just run CD's under tap water and use a non abrasive cleaner (dish soap) and lightly scrub with my fingertips then shake dry but that didn't work.

I have honestly seen worse disks and more scratches read fine so this one actually worried me some because it would take too long to read in windows so i'd assume it just kept timing out or not reading the proper files allowing it to boot up via CD/DVD Drive. Just kinda threw up my arms and went to a video store (yes, there is some video stores still in business lol) and paid $4 to have it resurfaced. I've heard the peanutbutter trick (didn't have any in the house) but never the toothpaste remedy...I will try that next time.

Re: Windows could not search for new updates (Error Cocde 8007002)

Peanut butter does not sound like a good idea to me because of the oils. Toothpaste is, by design a mild - very mild - abrasive used to polish teeth.
