Windows and Microsoft Office programs will not update

When I look to export logs folder from c drive the folder is empty ! The problem with updates has been ongoing for some time - not sure what was the trigger
When I go through control panel and try to update it is set at Never update and even when I try I get the message Cannot search for updates error Code 80070490 -

I have tried to manually download the system readiness tool but it stalls as I try to run it.

My system is running Vista Home Premium SP2 and has a 32 bit operating.

Any help gratefully accepted.

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative!

How long did you let the System Update Readiness Tool? Please try it again and give it an hour and a half to complete (it shouldn't take that long, but just occasionally it will, or even a bit longer).

Once you've got it run, I'll fetch the logs in another way.
