Hi

Sorry for the deloy, this sort of registry corruptions is a new concept to me, I am ask for some guideance from some of the experts. Hopefully I will have a fix for you shortly.

Hello :)

I've looked over your components hive and basically there is a choice for you to make. The hive itself has been corrupted such that it cannot be opened. However, aside from that one corruption, there is actually very little damage to the hive. This sort of corruption is quite rare, but I have, by luck, almost completed work on a tool for an experimental technique which is likely to be able to repair the hive. Without this tool, the file is unfixable, and historically always has been something we've been completely unable to even begin to repair --> reinstall the operating system.

Therefore, you have two options:

Reinstall the operating system now.
Wait for the tool. I estimate it will take about 3 days to perfect, a week if things go very slowly. I can't guarantee that it will work on your hive, but I think there's a fairly good chance.

Would you like to wait a couple of days to see if I can fix this, or reinstall now? I'm sorry that I can't do it for you now - you unfortunately have a very rare & complex problem so we don't yet have tools and techniques for it.

Richard

No worries. It seems you should get this tool completed for the benefit of all. This isn't my machine but I believe it can wait.

Any updates? you're killin me over here :cool3:

The tool Richard is talking about (SFCFix) is currently in final testing and should be out within a few days - Richard has run into some roadblocks during development.

Stephen

SFCFix is almost ready for release.

Richard takes great care in the creation of SFCFix to make sure that it is ran smoothly and safely. There are just few minor bugs left to ion out :)

Right, SFCFix has now been updated so let's see what it can do for us.

SFCFix AutoAnalysis

  1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  3. Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it.
  4. Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  5. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please.

Stephen

EDIT - Actually, I don't know if it will be able to help us at this stage, I've just looked at your hive in more detail. We shall see.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

I cannot get your COMPONENTS hive to load at all, and I have tried quite a few techniques. If you are willing, it would be faster to clean install the computer or attempt a repair install first (although I cannot guarantee it's success). If you do not wish to reinstall the machine, then I can spend some more time looking at this.

Stephen

Well darn. It was worth the try. I will likely rebuild his machine at this point. Thanks for the attempt!
