As with every other topic related to this error I'm having trouble updating my PC here..I've tried troubleshooting, Image repair, manual update, refresh, safe mode, etc. cause I can't remember all the rest I've done. I'm posting my CBS along with this and hopefully someone can help me out...I have 54 important updates it seems. lol I think it messed up around the time Windows 8.1 came out and right when I tried to install it it said it couldn't and think that's where my problem began. I tried installing Microsoft.NET framework 4.5.2 but recieved this error; Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x000003F1), "The configuration registry database is corrupt. " (Elapsed time: 0 00:06:11). In my list of updates there are some for 3.5 so shows how long I've been unable to update, I've scaned my PC and cleaned it and done just about everything but nothing works. Running DISM to scan and repair the Image did nothing saying there are no corrupted files. I hope this will be enough info as I've done too much to remember. I ran SFCfix and it found nothing wrong at all with my PC.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. Based on the information you have provided it sounds like your COMPONENTS hive is corrupt. Please do the following.

1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and copy the COMPONENTS file to your desktop.
Note: If you get a message that it's in-use, simply reboot your machine and then try again.
2. Zip up the components file that is on your desktop and upload to SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thank you.

Thank you for the info. Your COMPONENTS file does appear to open. So let's continue. Please do the following.

Step#1 -SFC Scan/Fresh Log
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thank you. Now let's get a fresh log after the following.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Ah can't find edit post..but yeah forgot to mention it didn't work; said that it fixed stuff but no nothing worked

Thanks for the info. Please download KB2955808 to your desktop. We are going to use this downloaded file for troubleshooting your install issues.

1. Try to install the update from the downloaded file.
2. If it fails, please zip up and attach the following two logs.
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log (you will likely have to copy this to your desktop before zipping)

OK, I see the issue now. It looks like one of your registry hives is corrupted (possibly beyond repair). Let's take a look however.

Code:
2015-06-14 21:09:03, Error                 CSI    00000011@2015/6/15:02:09:03.846 (F) base\wcp\componentstore\com\store.cpp(4878): Error NTSTATUS_FROM_WIN32(1009) originated in function Windows::COM::CComponentStore::MountSMISchemaHive expression: [B]MountSMISchemaHive[/B]
2015-06-14 21:09:08, Error CBS Exec: Failed to commit CSI transaction to execute changes. [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB]

1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When the command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command(s) into it one at a time, then press Enter after each.
echo f | xcopy /H c:\windows\system32\smi\store\machine\schema.dat %userprofile%\desktop\schema.dat
attrib -s -h %userprofile%\desktop\schema.dat

3. After you hit enter on the 1st line above it should say 1 File(s) copied. If it says Sharing Violation or In-Use or anything like that, please reboot and do these steps again.
4. At this point there should be a file on your desktop named schema.dat. Please right-click on this file and select Send To...Compressed (zipped folder) to zip it up.
5. Please attach the zip file to this post. If it is too large to attach (over 7MB) you may upload to SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hm alright...so this will fix it yet anything I've installed such as games, programs myself I will need to put back in? Also my laptop came with Windows 8 installed so I have no CD nor an ISO that I know of.

There are three different methods. Please let me know what you plan on doing.

Repair - That's the link I provided earlier but you need the install media. If you purchased your machine from on OEM (i.e. Dell, HP) you can contact them for replacement media. When you do this you will NOT have to reinstall any programs and all of your data will remain.

Refresh - If you do a Refresh your data will remain but any programs that you installed would have to be re-installed. If there is a recovery partition on your machine you will not need the media.

Reset - If you do a Reset then everything is wiped and reloaded. If there is a recovery partition on your machine you will not need the media.

The Repair option sounds good...I bought my laptop from Lenovo so I will contact them and see where I get from there.

OK, let me know how it goes. You need to be careful with some of the OEM media. Sometimes they send a recovery DVD that is customized and isn't able to be used for a repair. Hopefully that isn't the case with Lenovo.
