Windows 8.1 Update 1 failing continuously

Hello,
I'm trying to install the update 1 for Windows 8.1, i.e., KB2919355 but it's failing all the times.
It gets downloaded, preinstall, ask for a reboot, than the next shutdown and reboot show the Windows Updates messages of installation progress.
It fails and get reverted before the next login.

I've tested normal installation and also download the msu file to install.

I've tried to use the commands:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
That runs without errors and finish successfully.
But after that, the installation also fails.

I also run:
dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
All finish ok but the installation does not finish successfully after that.

I also manually follow the rules posted everywhere on the net, like, for instance:
How to download and install Windows 8.1 Update 1 for free (right now) | ExtremeTech

Now I don't know what to do...
Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem and fixed it by joining a thread at Microsoft Communities: KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and - Microsoft Community

On page 19 near the bottom of the page is what worked for me, however there are many suggestions in the thread - some work, some don't. Mine was: (note particularly the part about all msconfig Services being enabled)

"I also managed to install the update in 2 offline VMs (one 32 Bit and the other 64 Bit) and one offline system which had only installation with the Windows 8.1 .iso and the generic product key. These had the following installed:
64 Bit
32 Bit
There were no issues.
Were any of your systems Windows 8.0 and upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the Store?
THANK YOU! Just as you posted this, the MS Tech Rep also sent it to me via email. I tried it once and it didn't work. Then, in the back of my mind, i remembered somewhere I had read that enabling all Services under msconfig helps also. So, I took your information enabled all Services in msconfig - and Wallah it worked! Thank so much for your help. I really appreciate it. I had just about given up - succeeded on my 7th try."

Were any of your systems Windows 8.0 and upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the Store?
Yes, I've bought Windows 7 x64 then upgraded to Windows 8, and, after all, to 8.1 via store.

Will check the thread you've posted and also the all services on as you've suggested. Thanks.

I've tried to install offline for the 5th time. Got nothing but losing time.
Can anybody analyse the log? Thanks.

Tried for the n-time to install and it failed again. Log is as above and I'm not being able to figure out what is happening.
All services are set to manual or automatic. No one is disabled.

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative!

Can you please follow these instructions: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/4736-windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.html

to upload the entire CBS folder. There's currently nothing relating to this particular installation or its cause of failure in your latest CBS.log, so we obviously need to dig this out.

Also, can you please zip up and upload View attachment WindowsUpdate.zip.

Thank you!

Richard
Thanks for helping me on this.
I'm attaching the two files you've asked me.

I've restored a Windows Image from 15 days ago.
When I've started Windows Update then I had 10+ updates to install.
I've gone for them and updated/rebooted normally.
Then it left only the 8.1 Update 1 to be downloaded/aplied.
I've installed, the computer rebooted, go 100% and then report an error and rolled back.
Now the updates history is cleared and I'm back to the original situation of not able to install the update.
I'm attaching the logs and hope anybody can help me understand them.

I bet on:
1. Classical Shell installed.
2. Antivirus (avast! Premier).
3. Any other network/virtualization tool (like Virtualbox and its network drivers).
4. Any service...

But, of course, I'm not able to discover...

Anyone could help? Or, at least, give me any suggestion on where I could get help?
I have already passed for the first 2h with a Microsoft technician level 1, and could not give a step forward...

Can you follow this guide to clean boot Windows 8, then try updating from that state?

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Post all the logs if it fails again please :)

Hello Tom.
Many thanks for jumping here :)
I have already tryied the clean boot, but I'll try again and post the logs.

I’ve already run in an admin command line window:

sfc /scannow
dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

I've made a clean boot (only MS services and none a service disabled, only automatic/manual) and the update fails again.

Thanks, but my notebook does not have EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface), but, on contrary, the old (legacy) BIOS.
I'm in a Dell Vostro 3550 released much before Windows 8 being around.

Hi icarmona! :)
Have you installed ALL other updates?
Have you hidden any updates?
Which firewall/antivirus are you using?
If your antivirus isn't Windows defender/ms essentials, have you tried to install update 1 with your antivirus completely uninstalled?

Have you installed ALL other updates?
Yes. There is no other to be installed.

Have you hidden any updates?
No. All updates for Windows and MS Office are installed, no one is hidden.

Which firewall/antivirus are you using?
avast! Internet Security (both firewall/antivirus). I've tried with both disabled and also a clean boot.

If your antivirus isn't Windows defender/ms essentials, have you tried to install update 1 with your antivirus completely uninstalled?
This is the only one I've not tested. I need to be brave to test it and lose all the antivirus/firewall settings... Although avast! allow backup/restore.

Thanks for the support.
