Windows 7 Update Error [800F0900]

Hi,

Windows Update is trying to install KB2862966 but it keeps failing with 800F0900.
Saw some similar problems on this forum and followed the suggested steps (SFCFixVersion2 and Windows Update Readiness Tool).

So here are the files needed.
Hope you could help. Thanks!


NOTE:
I split the contents of the CBS folder because of attachment size limit.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a files should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Then run this FixIt in Aggressive Mode please:

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

Reboot then try to update and let me know how it goes, as well as posting the SFCFix log.

Hi Tom,

Thanks a lot for the follow-up.
I did as you instructed and the dumb me wasn't able to save the SFCFix log before trying the update.
So I run it again after the update which, unfortunately, still fails on KB2862966 (other updates installed OK) with the same error code (800F0900).

Not sure if relevant but here's the SFCFix after I tried the update.

Since we are dealing with a core package here, it's virtually impossible for us to fix this just from a CBS.log. Additionally, I have unfortunately not been able to put your split zip file back together again and still able to access all files. Can you please zip up and upload just C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log for me?

Let's see what I can do about some of those corruptions. I can't fix all of them, I don't know how yet (I'm being taught atm!), but I can deal with the bulk of them.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Please download the file, Packs.zip from my Dropbox -->here<--and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests


    ​
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages


    ​
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

OK - you have one remaining error - a corrupt payload file. The two errors regarding IE-Spelling and IE-Hyphenation can be ignored since they are caused by bug in SURT.

I cannot fix the payload file myself yet, so we willl have to wait for Richard or Tom to come along to look at it. :)

Tom and I are still working on it :p

It's the classic DriverSweeper case, and we don't actually have this file at this time. We're still searching!

Hi Richard,

I regretted the day I used that. Thought I already escaped this nightmare yet, apparently, it still haunts me :(

Anyway, if it's too troublesome, might you suggest to just do a repair install instead?
Or perhaps, if possible, help in finding this 'certain' file you're looking?
