[SOLVED] Windows 7 (Pro x86) will not update - 0x800B0100 & 8024200D

Hi!

I was inspired by this Thread "Windows 7 will not update to SP1 - 0x800B0100" because I have the exact same issue.
I read everything twice but unfortunately this has not stopped me to try everything niemiro he wrote even for the fact that he wrote "I do not require you to follow through these steps". I guess I was to enthusiastic because i found a solution after a long period of googling.

So as I said, I have the exact same problem, and I also tried the System Update Readiness Tool without any successful results. After running the Microsoft Fix-It: You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services I still have Error 0x800B0100, and got 8024200D to.

Attached you'll find my CBS folder, I hope the files you need are in there, and please let me know if not.
And my apologies if my text sounds weird, English is not my mother tongue.

Hello there and welcome to Sysnative!

This is my first post regarding Windows Updates, but I have practised this a lot and had my fix checked over by an expert so you're in good hands. :) Anyway, on with the fix.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

oO I didn't thought that that's it, but it was, and now I'm able to install the Windows Updates including SP1. I'll let you know if there are any issues left based on this one.

But I'm curious, is it possible to tell why that happened? I set many Computers up, but this was the first time when i got such error codes ...

Yep, that's it! Your error code is really quick and easy to fix. Not all are, but yours is. I doubt that you will have any more Windows Update errors now except for a completely new/separate issue. We have fixed all of the errors you had.

Unfortunately, I don't know why it happened. I suspect that this is a bug with Windows 7 TBH. Your error code does not affect Windows Vista or Windows 8 in anyway near the same scale. This particular error code is when an update fails/something goes wrong, most of its .cat/.mum/.manifest files disappear causing the later failures (corrupt Windows Update files...). Question is, why does this roll-back failure/un-roll-backed failure affect Windows 7 so massively, massively more than any other Windows OS (even accounting for relative market share)...

Don't know, but I think it's a bug.

After solving my problem above this post, the errorcode 8024200D returned.

I already tried to solve it with SURT, but it was useless.

I've merged the two threads together and marked it as unsolved for the time being...just how we like to organize things here, please just ignore me :)

As for your error...please list the KB article numbers for all of the updates you are getting error code 0x8024200D for (unless there is an excessive number).

Please download and install it manually: Download Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2660649) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Fingers crossed it installs manually. Usually with this error code is we find that a couple of updates from the time of the corruption need installing manually, but future updates go through successfully over the standard UI.
