Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's start with the following.

Step#1 - SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Perfect, thanks. Next, do the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Good. Now do the following.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

Thanks. Please run the following FixIt in Agressive mode.
Windows Update Broken? Fix it! << Tech – for Everyone

Once this completes, please reboot your machine and then check for updates. Don't attempt to install any yet. Just let me know which ones show up that need installed. The first time you do this it may take quite some time as it needs to rebuild the entire windows update cache so be patient.

Thanks.

important updates are Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3035583) optional updates
Acer - Display - S241HL
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3102429)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3133977)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3137061)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3138901)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3139923)

those are all the updates i have

As of 3:30pm the fix you suggested is working. I will get back in a day or two if I continue to have the same issue.

Update that did not fix the issue.... The update symbol is still next to shut down button on the start menu

Yes it install the update and then rebooted after the reboot it I was using it and went to open the start menu to open a program it showed there was more updates but when I shut down it doesn't do anything.

It show the only updates now for important is the windows 10 upgrade, and for optional MSE KB2310138 and Acer-Display-S241HL
