Hello,
A relative's laptop (Samsung, Win7 HP 64bit, stock OEM install) is having a few problems so I offered to take a look. One of the issues is Windows Update failing to install updates with the error code 80073712. This has happened with kb3057839 and kb3070102, though I think one succeeded the other so only one shows now.

Installing the updates manually doesn't resolve the issue - they still show as not installed in Windows Update.

In trying to resolve this I ran sfc /scannow which threw out some errors which I rectified and sfc runs without errors now. This didn't resolve the issue so I ran the update readiness tool which completed and produced errors in the log file (attached). I also tried resetting Windows Update, and even re-installing the Windows Update Agent.

Code:
(f) CSI Manifest Failed Catalog Check 0x00000000 winsxs\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-win32k_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22978_none_17662c7eca7111e3.manifest amd64_microsoft-windows-win32k_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.22978_none_17662c7eca7111e3

I can't find any information about this specific error online, nor can I find the file in question either on my own system or the Windows iso. The laptop only has a recovery partition which I did mount but it contains a disk image which I didn't manage to mount.

I hope that's all the information required.
Many thanks.
