Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

Re: Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

I understand that Norton Internet Security is taxing on system resources, and personally find security suites to generally cause problems with networking components. I would suggest that you remove NIS from your system for troubleshooting purposes:

Code:
Start Menu\Programs\Norton Internet Security
Start Menu\Programs\Norton

What does the computer usually hang on? Any specific times or programs?

Re: Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

OK, so NIS is uninstalled.

I'm usually using IE when it bombs. I think something is wrong in two areas: (1) My devices show an A: (floppy disk drive) and I don't have one. I have a DVD that doesn't show up and the drivers are hard to find; and (2) IE11 doesn't show up as being installed on my computer in Windows updates. It seems to crash after the computer has been up for about 30 minutes or so. Yesterday, I stayed in Safe Mode all day, until I really started to use IE11 a lot. Then it bombed. But it seems like it stays up MUCH longer in Safe Mode. Also, on bootup, it hangs at the amdkmpfd.sys driver.

Have a look into your chipset drivers, they should be on the AMD website.

Re: Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

It's an Intel quad core processor. But I went to AMD's website; dL'd the driver update utility to confirm. It is an Intel chip. So I went to Intel's driver update site and dL'd the driver update and it said that it couldn't fix it b/c of the Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.2, which couldn't be undone.

....and around we go....

What's next?

You may not have one, but there may be a floppy controller imbedded in the mobo (I hope that I'm using the correct lingo here).

Here are your drives per msinfo32:

There are no device drivers to install for a DVD drive. Microsoft Windows installs legacy cdrom.sys drivers.

Also, on bootup, it hangs at the amdkmpfd.sys driver.

It's an AMD PCI related driver -

I would give much consideration to reinstalling Windows. Your last install was over 4 years ago:
Original Install Date: 4/26/2011, 3:39:52 PM

A fresh OS install would better help us determine if hardware or software is the cause of your problems. Unfortunately, no guarantees, though.

I don't see any HDD Recovery Partition, so you would need the Windows 7 Pro DVD to reinstall Windows. It appears that W7 Pro came with the system...? -- as the key code shows "OEM", so you should be able to purchase a set from HP for about $30 USD.

What do I need to get the DVD drive to work? I have the Windows 7 Pro disk. When I change the boot sequence to the DVD drive, I get the BSOD real quick and then it disappears....

Re: Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

How old is the DVD drive?

Re: Windows 7 crashes hard randomly; no BSOD "Waiting for Tasks to complete" hung

It's several years old. But I usually don't use that PC. I want to take advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade icon sitting in my system tray.
