Windows 10 is being rolled out tomorrow (29th July 2015)! Remember, not everyone will get it tomorrow - some people may need to wait a few more days whilst Microsoft rolls it out gradually.

Who's planning to upgrade tomorrow and who's going to wait a few weeks for it all to stabilise and make sure there aren't any bugs? Is anyone planning to stay on Windows 7 or 8.1?

I plan on waiting a few weeks or so to rule out any bugs that might still be lingering. I'm in no rush to upgrade.

I'm planning on upgrading tomorrow. I'll post here how it goes. I also created the same kind of thread on BleepingComputer so users can share their experience with the upgrade and let us know if they experienced any issues and if they did, how they ended up fixing them. I'm sure this will help a few users.

Personally I'm sure my upgrade will be just fine. I don't even have a third-party Antivirus right now (I uninstalled KIS to get Hyper-V working), I use Windows Defender on Windows 8.1. So this is one program that could have caused an issue. I'm running NVIDIA drivers from 2-3 months ago, so I shouldn't encounter the latest issue with Windows 10 and the newest drivers. The only worry I have is that I have both SQL Server and Visual Studio installed, so I don't know how they'll react to the upgrade, but I'll test them right away once I get on Windows 10. Other than that, I don't have any personal data on my SSD (where Windows is), everything's on my HDD so I won't back-up my data for the upgrade since my HDDs will remain untouched.

That's it for now I guess.

I'm interested in knowing if System Restore is off by default when upgrading. I had to manually start System Protection for each build until 10240. I don't know if my settings were remembered or if the default was changed in 10240.

Just backed everything up, got my 8.1 Pro ISO burning now. I'll reformat to 8.1 Pro, get things set up, and then upgrade.

You want to perform a really clean upgrade right? :P

I was going to hold off on 10 for a little while, but since I generally reformat every year anyway, I figured this time around I may as well just make the jump since it's launch day and have some fun.

So far, the only way to upgrade is via the upgrade that is pushed by the KB3035583. Once Microsoft release the Windows 10 .iso, it'll be possible to upgrade via a clean installation or upgrade install.

I really haven't done any reading on 10's release information til literally just now. Ironic coming from someone so invested in internals, but it is what it is. I won't reformat until tomorrow, so I won't be able to reserve my download. I wonder how long it'll take battling half the planet.

Everyone won't get it all at once. Its going to be rolled out in bits. In fact, even though I have all updates installed on my little Windows 8.1 HP Stream 7 tablet, I just tonight received the offer to Reserve a copy of Windows 10.

Was the KB3035583 installed before that or not? Also, I'll leave my computer open overnight as I want the download to be ready tomorrow morning when I wake up!

Yes, it was installed before.

As to the upgrade, quotes from Terry Myerson's post at Windows 10: Preparing to Upgrade One Billion Devicess:

We want to make sure all of you have a great upgrade experience, so we’ll roll-out Windows 10 in phases to help manage the demand.
and

Starting on July 29, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders. From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.

If you reserved your copy of Windows 10, we will notify you once our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system.

I am going to go with the flow and take it how it comes, just as the majority of the world will do.

Reserved machines in China started getting the bits 10 hours ago in a rolling wave. Redmond (rumor has it) will start at Midnight at the center of the universe. The has been problems with updates failing on the reserved machine. Let the fun begin. New build number is 10240.16405.150725-1815.th1 with the delta number incrementing up from 16384. Along with the build comes a day one patch is less than 500MB, but expands to over 1GB of improvements when applied to the system.

dycrypter fails when converting the ESD to ISO.

Gave into the hype and reformatted. Installing all updates and getting the show on the road for tomorrow.

My update failed for some reason, I can't download it...

Woke up this morning to 5 Optional Updates that wouldn't install. Check the CBS.log and saw the error then fixed it (I had my COMPONENTS Hive loaded twice in the Registry and it wouldn't handle it properly). Once done, it asked for a restart. I restarted, and then it found 1 Important Update and 1 Optional Update which I installed. Asked for a new reboot, which I did. Now I'm at work, but I left my computer open and I'll see if the Windows 10 upgrade is ready when I get home tonight.

Edit: The .iso download of Windows 10 is now available if you want to download it.
