Come to find out, the end of support date has been known since before the release of date of Windows 10 (July 29, 2015). From Support for Windows 10 Will Last Until 2025, published July 20, 2015:

Microsoft today said that its next OS release will have official support for the customary 10 years.

An update on the company's Windows lifecycle fact sheet Web site showed that official extended support for Windows 10 will end on Oct. 14, 2025 and mainstream support will conclude five years earlier on Oct. 13, 2020.

When the new Windows is eventually released? I presume that Windows 10 users will be offered a free upgrade again?

No way of knowing at this point. We all have to wait and see what will happen.

Personally, I wish they just change the name to "Windows" and leave it there. Like the Toyota Corolla has been the Corolla since 1966 but surely no one believes the 1966 is the same car as the 2021 model.

Or "Microsoft OS" will work for me too. A fancy new name is not going to make me run out and upgrade all my systems.

That would be preferred option for me too. How many users say "Windows 10" when they're referring to their operating system? Almost everyone just says "I'm using Windows".
