Greetings,

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit which is giving an error each time I try to apply SP1 (KB976932-X64). I have tried applying it in a clean boot environment, AV disabled, via Windows Update and via standalone KB downloaded (checksum verified.) Each time it fails with 0x80070002 ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. Following the troubleshooting steps found here it appears there is a missing entry in the component registry hive so I would like to request assistance in resolving this so I can finally get SP1 loaded.

As per the instructions here are the relevant logs:

SCFFix (awesome tool btw):
SFCFix version 2.3.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2014-08-19 20:33:29.135

CBS upload to follow shortly, too large to attach.

Thanks in advance!

Hello SDH and welcome to Sysnative :)

Lets see if we can get that registry key fixed up :). First we need to to take a look at the the registry hive:

SFCFix Collect CBS
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  4. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now begin to upload your CBS logfiles to our server.
  6. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  7. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

If all goes well, you should see that your logfiles have now been added to your thread.

Kinda my fault, but you've got a typo in #2 :)

Hello Go The Power,

Thank you for taking a look at my thread. I followed your instructions but unfortunately SFCFix crashes after about 15 seconds. The HDD is consistently active right up until this point. I have attached a screenshot not that it will help I fear. No logs were generated by SFCFix.

Please advise on my next course of action. Should I upload the COMPONENT hive?

Hello :)

I'm the developer of SFCFix, and I want to sincerely apologise for this crash. The good news, however, is that I believe that I have managed to resolve the problem. Can you please download a new copy of SFCFix from https://www.sysnative.com/forums/downloads/sfcfix/ and try again - hopefully this time everything will go smoothly.

Richard

I'm glad it worked :) Thanks a lot for the screenshot by the way - it helped a great deal. By seeing which line of console output had last been printed to the screen and comparing that against which lines of output had not yet been printed it homed me straight in on the area of problematic code. Then it was fairly simple to work back through all the changes I'd made to that code recently (there was at one point a time when Collect:: worked correctly) and look for something I'd bungled. After that it was a fairly trivial fix. So thank you for your screenshot :)

My pleasure :] I must confess to mild amusement that while coming here for help I was able to give something - albeit minor - back. Thanks again for the quick bugfix! :]

Hello SdH,

Thanks for submitting the file. There is a registry corruption that is present inside your SURT log, currently I am looking into some methods of repairing this registry key for you. Hopefully I should have a reply for you I the next few days :)

Hello SdH,

Lets take a look at the security permissions on these files to ensure they are correct.

PowersShell ACL

  • Click on the

  • Inside the PowerShell windows copy the following command
    reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS "C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS"
    get-acl "C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB958488~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.2.7600.16513.cat" | format-list >2
    get-acl "C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB958488~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.2.7600.16513..mum" | format-list >>2
    get-acl "HKLM:\COMPONENTS\CanonicalData\Deployments\microsoft-w..-deployment_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.7600.16513_622a26e7493e9f5e" | format-list >>2
  • Press Enter
  • Type in notepad 2

  • You should now have a notepad file with a list of all the files inside the BIN folder along with all of their Security Permissions. Please post the contents back into this thread.
