I am trying to update my Win7 Gateway DX4822. I have done a total factory reinstall. Some of the updates work but not all. It will not update to SP1. I have tried to manually run the System Update Readiness Tool but I come up with a 0X8007000D error data invalid. When I run sfc /scannow, I get notifications of corrupt files that it can't fix. I would attach the CBS file but it is too large. Any help would be appreciated.

The 000D error is usually related to permissions problems in the registry, in my experience.
Please run another SFC scan, and post the results
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click on the Command Prompt entry
Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

At the Command prompt, type

SFC /SCANNOW

and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the entire C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your reply - if it's too large for the forum, delete a couple of the oldest CBSPersist files and try again.

Any particular key, or just Windows Update registry keys generally? I'm pretty sure there's also a strong association with hardware failure too. Or at least I've always associated that error with hardware failure, but I have never had a 100% success rate on that so would be very interested in this extra theory.

But yeah, if none of the above works, test hardware IMO.

Specifically, there's a related KB....
Error code 0x8007000D when trying to activate a Windows server 2008 or Windows 7 machine using any type of product key.
... and a few such items as this...
Error Code 0x8007000D (Fixed)

(anyone'd think I specialised in WGA, huh? :D)

I have indeed seen a 00D error caused by hardware problems - from memory, they were HD problems, and the disk was corrupt.

The built-in error traps that I've accessed show it to be either..
'Error_invalid_data' - IE
or
'Unable to Open the License. The Data is invalid' - WAT
