I haven't analyzed a dump file in a while but my first assumption would be incompatible drivers that you had carried over from the Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 8. Why didn't you just do a complete reinstall? It's not necessarily that you'll be able to revert back to Windows 7 from the upgrade to Windows 8, so I would've just backed everything up on an external or temp partition, installed on a free bit of space after some format process, and then move and extend the temp partition back into the main one after the fact, unless you used an External.

I did some how manage to do a refresh in it and lost ALL my programs and saved games wasn't happy at all with that.. which is the reason I upgraded and not fresh install. I've updated all drivers and had to dl and reinstall all my programs... might move everything from the ssd and do a fresh install. But at work at the moment. Soo might do that when I get home. Was pissed off cause bought farcry 3 today took me more then 4hrs to get some time in the game... when it loads to internet causes dcp-watchdog-violation.

You can't avoid losing your programs unless they are portable executables. You don't want to port installed programs to a new installation of Windows. That's bad, and probably wouldn't work anyways, because settings and configurations would be unique to the computer, because of the registry.

This is an online game isn't it? Could be variety of things though. I can't do any analysis right now though, I have to go to bed unfortunately. I've got to get up earlier tomorrow for work, and I've got to go straight to this event after work, then the next day is my last day of work, and i've got to follow up with several people on some jobs that I need to get.

Nah it's a stand alone fps game. But has like an online cloud drive to store save games and profile similar to xlive. Gamertag. But thank you heaps for attempting to help anyway. Much appreciated.

At least one of your crashes blames avast! antivirus software directly.

Replace avast! with Microsoft Security Essentials

  1. Use the avast! removal utility to remove avast!

  2. See if Windows Defender provides more stability. Windows Defender comes pre-installed in Windows 8, so removing avast! should re-enable it. To check, view your Action Center Security settings and make sure Defender is protecting your system from viruses and spyware.
    • Click the lower left corner of your screen to open the Start Screen.

    • Type Action Center.

    • Click Settings

    • Click Action Center

    • Expand Security

I'm going to try a format and fresh install when I get home. And no thanks I don't like Microsoft's firewall/antivirus. That's why I paid for an avast subscription.. but yes on fresh install I will try for a few days without avast. To see how it goes....

Sorry Tristo85, I just didn't have time yesterday, just got home from work today and I leave for a Roast with some of the bit cats in Canada today, so i've been taking this pretty seriously. I would agree with writhziden though, why go through the hassle of doing a complete format and reinstallation of Windows when it could possibly result in another BSOD because you're still using Avast? Some drivers just don't work well under certain circumstances.

I have to honestly say though, that if you come to a forum asking for help you should be looking to take experts' advice, instead of just doing what you'd want to do. If you don't like MSE you can try another antivirus, but if you run into another BSOD that blames Avast... Don't say we didn't warn you :) I don't hope that you get another BSOD, but you'd have better luck doing what writhziden says with all due respect.

I have seen Avast be a cause of BSOD's more times than I can remember. It's just not a very stable program, and that can't be avoided by reinstalling Windows to install Avast again.

Cheers,
Ace

well did the format reinstall... {havent installed avast yet. becuase like i said in one of the other posts i will try without it for a few days.. :) but only problem now is i havnt got an active key...... because i did a clean install.. my w8pro upgrade key is invalid in fresh install.... :( nothing but dramas with win8.. i just wish for once something would go right for me.... oh and the other main reason i didnt want to do a fesh install... is cause now i have lost an entire 2TB worth of important files... {any good free partition recovery programs you cna recomend

You can activate a clean install of Windows 8 using an upgrade key with the following method:

  1. Move the mouse to the lower right corner to open the Settings options

  2. Click Settings

  3. Click Change PC settings

  4. Click General

  5. Click Get started under the Refresh your PC without affecting your files area

When it finishes, you should see that Windows 8 is activated.

Partition recovery: Paragon Rescue Kit

I did that and still got BSOD.... . I just format install w7 then updated

I hate to say I told you so, but...

Unfortunately it would've been better if you'd listened to the advice which had been given to you in the first place. Perhaps you've now learned your lesson? (So maybe this mistake was a good one in that case?) :grin1:

And like I said in that post. I will try for a few days without avast... then try with it.. to see what causes problems.... and haven't gotten a chance to play the comp had to go work.. but with a fresh install only thing on it was my farcry 3 game and still crashed.

I haven't tried stock I did clock it back from 4.6 to 4.0 will test in about half hour or so when I'm home just about to finish work. It was stable at 4.6 in w7

When you have the chance, follow the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 8, 7 & Vista
.

Also, I noticed that your system was overclocked at the time of the previous crashes. Does it crash if you clock it back to stock speeds?

ok it seems that the nvidia 310.64 drivers for my graphics card are what was causing all the crashes... seems that driver doesnt like the 500series cards. so hopefully when i get my gtx660ti it will run fine then ill update to those drivers and see if it still causes troubles... and no i havent installed avast yet.. still trying to recover my lost hdd..... once thats all finished i will slowly install the main programs one by one and run it for a day or 2 before next install.. to see if something causes me troubles , but *touches wood* it seems stable now. even OC to 4.0Ghz only other main program ive installed is argus monitor {to monitor all my temps. for gaming
cheers for all your help guys..

ok scrap that.. soon as i loaded the game with argus monitor it dcp_violation BSOD'd
so thats gone now.
was working fine in just normal usage,
