I should say at the start that I'd originally installed this Win7 x64 on a Biostar board which then died on me, so rather than start from scratch I used a workaround that has served me well before to reset the SATA drivers, etc and transfer it to the Asrock board before reinstalling the correct drivers, reactivating, etc.

So it may be that you're going to advise me to just start from scratch again and if so, fair enough but obviously if I can fix this and avoid that I'd like to.

Anyway, first BSOD happened when I was launching some program or other and referred to NTFS.sys. The second happened when installing/updating ATI Catalyst from 11.11 to 13.4 (it actually was only installing the HDMI Audio driver and Vision Control as the machine is only using onboard HD4250 IGP so the display driver, etc could not be updated) and referred to ATIxxxx.sys).

I'm also getting a lot of refusals trying to delete/overwrite files/folders in both C:\Program Files (maybe (x86) and D:\Downloads, with the errors telling me I don't have permission, despite using an Admin account with UAC disabled and Security showing that Administrators have full access rights to said folders. The files seem to get deleted eventually but something's obviously wrong.

I'll collect the files as requested here https://www.sysnative.com/forums/bs...g-instructions-windows-8-7-windows-vista.html in the meantime.

Specs are:
Athlon II X4 630
HD4250 IGP (sharing 512MB of the 4GB DDR3 RAM)
Asrock 880GMH/US3
Seasonic G360 PSU

Only 137 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 160 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Haven't seen any RamDisk's recently. I'm uncertain if this is compatible with Win7 (and it appears that it's unused). Either remove it from your system - or ensure that it's Win7 compatible.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): DuplexSecure - FAQ Link broken as of 21 Jul 2012
New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link: Disc-Tools.com
Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.
Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-install". Reboot for changes to take affect.
Sometimes the driver remains and continues to cause BSOD's. If this is the case for you, post back and we'll give further instructions for safely removing it.

If overclocking, please stop. Remove the overclock and return the system to stock/standard values while we're troubleshooting. Once the system is stable again, feel free to resume the overclocking.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

In case this is a hardware problem, you can get a head start by running these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics. Let us know the results and we can move on from there.

Thanks, I'll uninstall all that stuff and see if it behaves after that. I don't need AMD Overdrive on there anyway. I have Daemon Tools installed on my other two systems without problem but I probably did uninstall the sptd driver on those.

Using DataRAM RAMDisk which I believe is OK for Win7 and is used on my other two systems without problem. Softperfect RAMdisk also works well.

That UltraVNC driver might be causing problems as I seem to recall it has in the past. My other system has the Demoforge Mirage VNC driver which seems to be OK but I can do without it on this system.

No overclock on this system.

By the way, I noticed the time was wrong on the system earlier so synced it, which no doubt explains why the ntfs.sys BSOD is dated April 11 when it actually happened the same day as the AtihdW76.sys BSOD!

Also, make sure to install genuine Windows. You have a counterfeit ASUS system install attached to a non-ASUS system.

Yeah, no worries, I'll sort that out once I'm sure the hardware is OK as this is the third board I've been through on this build and it's tedious having to phone up and explain and ask for a new code.

After uninstalling everything suggested, I then was getting a BSOD everytime I launched IE, referring to iswkl.sys. I found that was ZoneAlarm taskbar so uninstalled ZA and it doesn't BSOD on launching IE anymore. I'm sure ZA should be OK though, which makes me suspect something else (either hardware or software) might still be borked.

It did a ChkDsk on boot yesterday and found a lot of errors on C: but they mostly seemed to be indexing errors and there were only a few files in the Lost folder after it finished, all of which appeared to be ATI files. I ran into the problem of being unable to delete this folder (but could delete a subfolder within it), with the error saying I need Admin permission despite being an Admin user and I don't recall ever having a problem deleting this folder on other systems, so I think something is still wrong there as well.

I did a memtest for about 12 hours with 8 passes and no errors overnight.

Sorry, but I didn't realize that this was a pirated copy of Windows. Here's my spiel on that:
Should this be a pirated copy of Windows, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

So, I'm going to close this topic.
Feel free to post back for further assistance once you have a legal copy of Windows installed.
