[SOLVED] Update Error 80070490

Hello Bill, and welcome to Sysnative!

Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). If you have a Microsoft Account, SkyDrive could be a good choice: https://skydrive.live.com/, but any other will do just fine. Make sure to set the file as publicly accessible.

Then send me a link to the file.

Thank you,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Here is the link to the zipped components file that you requested.

This is my niece's notebook and there where some nasty bugs in it (which I managed to eradicate).

Thank you,
Bill

Hello again Bill :)

Thanks so much for that! Well, I've created a fix for the issue. Now we import it and see if it works. If it does, great, if not, I reassess and edit it slightly to make it work. Sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to perfect, sometimes I get it first time. We'll just have to wait and see!

SFCFix Script

Warning:
this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please.

Then please re-test Windows Update. If still no-go, re-run System Update Readiness Tool and post new CheckSUR.log.

Thanks!

Richard

Looks great to me! Since your Windows Update problem is now fixed, and the script completed without errors, I consider this case resolved and you're free to go :)
(unless you have anything else you wish to ask me)

Have a good day!

Richard
