[SOLVED] Unable to delete e-mail

I recently received an e-mail infected with Agent.xm Trojan horse. AVG Free detected and deleted the threat, but I am now unable to delete the original e-mail. All attempts to modify, move or delete are denied despite having full access rights on my machine. Even using command prompt "del" command would not delete it.
Any help please?

Hi, Alandy7.

The following suggestions are based on Outlook, since you didn't indicate what email program you are using.

  • Right-click on the Deleted Items folder and choose “Empty Folder”). If the email remains, try again to delete it.
  • While the email is highlighted/selected, keep the Shift key pressed and hit the Delete key.
  • Type outlook.exe /safe in your Start -> Run window or Windows Search panel to restart Outlook in Safe Mode and try deleting the email.
  • As a last resort, try editing the infected email (Actions -> Edit Message), save it and try to delete it.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, forgot to say I am using Windows Live Mail and obviously none of the above work, BUT ran Live Mail in safe mode and "Bingo" e-mail deleted. Brilliant
Thank you very much.

Just in case anyone else follows this thread. Live Mail will not run in safe mode, so I had to find the inbox folder and delete the file directly. This did not work (access restricted) in normal mode.
