Unable to access BIOS through keyboard

Recently my system failed and was unable to boot my Windows install disk to do a repair, tried to enter the BIOS to assure DVD was set as a boot drive but found I could not enter the BIOS via the keyboard, furthermore cannot start a DVD/CD when prompted to hit any key.

Is your key board a USB by chance, if so buy/barrow as PS2 keyboard....I all ways keep one on hand for just such incidents. It's well worth the investment.

As for the cause to why it quite working....your guess is as good as mine. It just happens sometimes when a system fails/crashes like that. Call it a glitch in the Matrix.....

Outlook 2010 stopped connecting

April 4th I ran adwcleaner in an effort to get rid of recurring pop-up every time I click into a page that requires input. After running the adwcleaner, my Outlook 2010 stopped working. I tried to restore to a previous day prior to adwcleaner but system did not restore on 3 attempts. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS. I get the following error message from Outlook. I've tried many different settings and mail addresses to no avail.

I'm using att.yahoo mail but tried gmail and several others and it acts like there is no internet connection. Some of my other apps also stopped working.


Receiving' reported error (0x800408FC) : 'The server name you entered cannot be found on the network (it might be down temporarily). Verify that you are online and that the server name is correct.'

It is a USB keyboard and I tried the PS2 keyboard also which did not work either. Any other suggestions? It all worked fine prior to running the adwcleaner utility.

Other than one of the largest AdwCleaner logs I've seen, filled with PUPs, Adware, Toolbars and more, I am not seeing anything in the AdwCleaner log that would impact Outlook 2010.

Ed, try this.

• Shut down the computer, remove the power cord, then hold the power button in for about 10 seconds.
• Plug the power cord back in and start the PC - see if you can enter BIOS.
• If you can't get into BIOS, shut down again and try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port. Or try the PS2 keyboard again.

For the Outlook problem, your computer is probably stuck trying to go through a proxy server rather than directly to the internet. If that's the case, it's the result of all the junk that was installed.

• Click the Start button and type Internet options. Click the link to Internet Options in Control Panel.
• Go to the connections tab then click the Lan Settings button. Is there a check next to "Use a proxy server"? If so, uncheck it and put a check next to "Automatically Detect settings" then click OK.

Reset some Network Settings.

• Click the Start button and type CMD in the search box. Right click on Command Prompt and select run as administrator
• At the command prompt, type or paste netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and press enter
• Type netsh winsock reset and press enter
• Type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter
• Close the command prompt and restart.

You'll still need to clean up that junk. Those programs should have been uninstalled first, before running adwcleaner. I'd follow up with a full malwarebytes scan and an antivirus scan. The subsequent scans will more than likely find left over registry entries and files that belong to those PUPs and adware programs.

I had a similar experience that required that i use a USB 2 port rather than usb 3. This happened during an upgrade repair for win 7. I got to the license code screen and discovered that neither my mouse nor kb worked. A helpless feeling for sure. I use a wireless combo and noticed that the transmitter was no longer powered from the usb 3 port, but was after switching to the usb 2 port. Just a thought that's easy to do. Good luck.

I apologize for misreading the post.

I have no explanation for the fix. The first 2 times that I attempted an upgrade repair I lost power to the usb and ps2 ports. This last time it completed correctly. I did nothing between the attempts because I knew nothing new.
