I was just wondering, is there an advantage to having System Protection for RECOVERY (D:) turned on? Mine is off.

This came to mind out of curiosity while I was just viewing my laptop for comparison to a thread I found concerning D:\AUTORUN.INF which I assume is how the RECOVERY files are accessed when you restore to factory settings.

Thanks!

Since the recovery partition is not changed (or at least it should not be), I see no reason for having system protection on. It is better to just create the recovery discs and rely on them for a backup of those files.

It comes OFF on most OEM systems.
And if we change things at work, we turn it off when we're done.
The assumption is that it takes extra resources to monitor that drive - so if it's not needed, then you're using extra resources for no purpose.

FWIW - the Recovery drive consists of files that don't change. If needed you can backup the files to another location - and that one backup should be good forever (unless the OEM has to issue fixes for the recovery partition).

You've gotta be careful tho' - as I've seen users storing stuff there!
And, I don't know if the files are arranged in a specific location (bootable) or not.
