Switching to the desktop from the start screen

So when I'm at the start screen, and I click an app, or I go up to the top right corner and click on the desktop, occasionally it won't switch to the desktop.
It doesn't happen all the time, and I can't figure out how to reproduce it, but it is very annoying.
Alt-Tab still works.
So i'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if anyone knows a solution?

Thanks :cool3:

Have you tried SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from an Elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt?
Have you tried a Refresh of Windows 8?

I use the Win key and the D key to get to the Desktop also.
You can also use Win and X - then press D

You may want to hold off on working this topic until the SFC experts have a look at your other topic.

I've not personally heard of it, but that doesn't mean much. When it does not work, what methods are you using to try and switch to the desktop? I know you've mentioned clicking, but there are other ways - does the "start" button in the sidebar charms work? Does the Windows key on the keyboard? I'm just curious what does and doesn't work, and what kinds of things were done just prior, etc. Otherwise, a random problem without data is just a random problem unfortunately.

Next time it happens i'll document fully what I can and can't do.
Hopefully my SFC topic will be looked at by then so I can rule out corrupted system files.

Well it just happened.

Going to the upper left and clicking on Desktop... did not work.
Clicking on the desktop app icon... did not work.
Clicking the start button on the sidebar... did not work.
Clicking on any app... did not work. (couldn't open any apps)
Pressing the windows key... did work.

And I know from the past Alt-Tab works.

Hmmmm.... so the keyboard options seem to work, nothing works with the mouse. Am I reading that correctly?
