Then can you download the SURT to your Desktop please (keep it there as we may well need it again, and it's a big file!): Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Center

Double click on it to install it, then post the log when it completes: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

Once again thank u for responding quickly, Tom. Seems like my W7 isn't allowing installation["Application was not installed"] of Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 or Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 although I'm trying to upgrade/clean install from an earlier Kaspersky product. Scanned for virus/malware programs using KVRT but in vain. Support from Kaspersky Lab is of little help. Only other security program installed is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Can you offer any insight in this regard?

Hi Vishw4ever,

That's excellent! With one small exception which I am currently discussing with the SFCFix developer, all of the files have been successfully replaced.

The errors in your CheckSUR log are nothing to worry about and are merely a bug in the SURT.

If you haven't already tried it, I recommend you remove all traces of Kaspersky using their removal tool: Service articles

Reboot, then try installing it again.

Tom

Using kavremover yielded no favourable outcome in the installation of KAV/KIS 2013. I'm also seeking help from Support team of Kaspersky. If you have a solution/work around for this issue, pls enlighten me.

Also about the blue blob/patch I was referring to earlier, is still persistent in both Service Manager(services.msc) & Group Policy Editor(gpedit.msc). I'm attaching screenshots of the same.

Is Upgrade installation of OS preferable at this point of time?

srv_msc.jpggpedit_msc.jpg

Hi Vishw4ever,

It's always best to remove any AV software with the designated removal tool rather than through Add/Remove programs because AVs have files all over the place, protecting you from threats across the board, and the removal tool will make sure everything is gone. The Kaspersky support team should be able to sort you out so I'll leave you with them on that issue.

As for this mysterious blue blob, I've never seen anything like that before in my life! Just to completely eliminate the possibility of it being caused by file corruption since the last scan, can you run another SFC scan please?

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

A repair install may be our best bet, but let's hold off on that idea until we assess the problems in the CBS log, if any.

One last thing, did you modify the SFCFix log to hide your account name? I don't mind at all, it's just that the filepath isn't what it should be and we're not sure whether this is a bug or not, that's all.

Code:
SFCFix version 1.5.4.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2013-05-24 18:03:03.739
Using .zip script file at [B]%userprofile%\Desktop\SFCFix.zip[/B]

Yes Tom, I did hide account name in that log as it is named after my dumb-nickname which I didn't want to reveal, nothing else.
& coming to the blue blob issue I've come across people suggesting to perform the following commands would solve the issue, during which I found that Srchasst.inf was missing & running sfc /scannow resulted in missing files.

Code:
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]also fixes the blank search companion. [/FONT][/COLOR]

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]Click Start, Run and type:[/FONT][/COLOR]

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]regsvr32 /i C:\Windows\Srchasst\srchui.dll[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]regsvr32 jscript[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]regsvr32 vbscript[/FONT][/COLOR]

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]If that does not help:[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]1. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator permissions.[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]2. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%\inf, and then click OK.[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install. This reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses.
[/FONT][/COLOR]
or

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]regsvr32.exe jscript9.dll[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]&[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]regsvr32.exe jscript.dll[/FONT][/COLOR]

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana]On Windows7 with IE9 also try [/FONT][/COLOR]

[COLOR=#323232][FONT=verdana](Run cmd As Administrator)[/FONT][/COLOR]

I'm attaching the new CBS log w/o any tinkering.

Hi Vish4ever,

Well that's a relief! We were wondering how a bug like that is even possible :p

Hi Vishw4ever,

The bug causing the error in your SFCFix log has been tracked down and is currently being incorporated into the next version of SFCFix. I will post back here when the update is rolled out :)

Actually...in this case, there is nothing to worry about. We can tell for sure from the 2x success messages that these files are hardlinked together, so we only need to get 1x success per hardlink to have what we need. So...nothing to worry about in that log :)

What about the blue bob(services.msc & gpedit.msc) issue pointed out earlier? Unfortunately, none of the above solutions worked. Is there any other way to fix it?

I have same issue on Windows 7 32-bit, blue blob in services.msc extended (but standard view is ok). I also have jscript9.dll issue with sfc /scannow. cannot install flash for IE 10 (certain content is not showing in IE 10, but is fine in FF)... machine was infected and well cleaned (I believe), but I cannot resolve this final issue. any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!
