SMART failure predicted on Hard Disk O: after installing SSD

In order to speed up an old laptop I cloned the magnetic HDD to a SSD using Macrium Reflect and installed the SSD. Now when I boot up I get: SMART failure predicted on Hard Disk O:




Pressing F1 does nothing. I have tried to get into the BIOS with F2, number 0, Esc, F12 but nothing works.

Any ideas?

Is the SSD new?

Did you create a recovery boot disk or USB with Macrium? If so, boot from the Macrium rescue disk and use the fix boot problems option in Macrium.

If this works, @softwaremaniac may have some advice on how to test the drive.

I put the old HDD in and created a recovery USB using Macrium. I am indeed able to boot to the recovery USB by pressing F12 for boot options when the system powers on. However, when I re-insert the SSD, F12 no longer works. In fact nothing works. I only get the SMART Failure Predicted message.

I agree with @softwaremaniac , it sounds like a dead SSD. Sorry.....
