Shouldn’t Google Be Pushing Google+ On Its Users

Google, who just officially came away from a major antitrust investigation unscathed, is now drawing some criticism in the press over its “requiring” of people to use Google+, or rather having a profile when they sign up for various services like Gmail, YouTube, etc.
Do you have a problem with Google pushing Google+ this aggressively on its users? Let us know in the comments.
I’m not sure what the new revelation here is. Google has been integrating Google+ into just about every facet of its business since it was launched, and has been very clear from the beginning that Google+ is the social layer or “social spine,” if you will, of Google. With that stated (repeatedly) mentality, and last year’s changes to its privacy policy, nobody should be surprised to see Google continue to push Google+ on users. Google has repeated this line over and over again: “Google+ is Google.”

I'm so against this that I honestly feel like using Bing more than I use Google now (this is the truth too, I have had Bing set up as my homepage for a few months now). I don't even use chrome anymore really because I also now know the kind of data Google takes from you while you browse using their browser... Google has become a bunch of power hungry people in my opinion. Now they want to know your cell phone number, and they want to link your Google profiles with everything... Facebook, Twitter, YouTube (even though they own it, yes), emails, etc... It's so annoying, I can't stand it. Just let the users decide, sure it's nice that they can do this, but what annoys me is that they give you a popup reminding you about it everyday nearly. It's like they are in an attempt to take over the internet, and soon enough I would not be surprised if they wanted to tie a blood sample document with your profiles... :banghead:

I couldn't unlink my Google from my YouTube without Google having to delete my YouTube account without confirmation from me that this is what I wanted to do. There's absolutely no way around it. Even if Google+ was a good idea, I'll never support them on it in my lifetime, because of some of the things I've seen them trying to do.

Google used to be good, but now they just want to link every last profile you have out on the net to make it all one big chain link, and demand all kinds of information from you. Just a while ago they came out with the idea of having to display your real name on your YouTube account. There is an option "NO (because this is for private use)" or something along those lines, but it simply doesn't matter, I get the reminder about it every time I login still.

What's wrong with Google nowadays or have they lost their mind? :confused2: I'm presuming that the guys behind Google have absolutely no concept of privacy?

Edit: For the article in the OP, this extends much past just Google+ in my opinion, and it's frustrating for me as a former Google enthusiast, truthfully. YouTube is one of the main, and only things I used by Google still, but I can honestly say it should have stayed under the ownership of the "right" people and it would have been better...

I switched to Bing ages ago, Ace, and seldom use the Google search engine. The Bing search results are cleaner with a lot less garbage thrown in.

I have kept my blog on Google property though, only because I have no desire to deal with registering & maintaining a domain name and hosting service. When I set it up in 2006, WordPress didn't have the flexibility that Blogger had available.

Good choice! :) Bing is much better. I personally used WordPress, but i'm not much of a blogger. I have a WordPress blog and a blog on the mvps website, but I should really be using it more. I haven't posted anything on the mvps blog yet, but I think it's partly procrastination lol. I get more enjoyment out of sharing on forums.
