Hi, I already have a powerful pc that I use as my main one. I'm looking for a second hand notebook to install Qubes. The options I found viable are the following:

Hp elitebook 2540p
lenovo x201
asus X441SA (I don't know if it's compatible with Qubes)

You're the ones who recommend me to buy. It is only to have it of secondary pc. Or if you have any other notebook to recommend me is welcome. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards.

Well, I had to look up Qubes to see what it is. Never heard of it before.

I avoid Lenovo products because they have a long and more significantly, a recurring history of planting malware and spyware on their product.

I would normally pick ASUS over HP but according to the specs I can find for that ASUS, it looks like it supports 4GB of RAM and cannot be upgraded. So through that process of elimination, I would go for the HP. That said, because one of the primary purposes of operating systems is to facilitate communications between all the various hardware components of a computer, you might ask the folks at the Qubes website.

Also, when requesting advice on purchases, it is always best to include your budget.

Hello, thank you very much for your reply. My budget is USD 200. I plan to invest little money because it will be a secondary pc apart from being second hand. Best regards.

Well, when you buy used, you take your chances anyway. I think your best bet is still to ask your question over at Qubes. They surely will have more experience determining compatible hardware. If a custom built PC, I would think compatibility would not be an issue. But notebooks start out as very proprietary and that can even be a problem with Windows.

Well, I rule out the option of installing Qubes. It's very complicated to get a cheap machine that works with that operating system. If you are so kind, which notebook do you recommend me to buy? Thank you very much. Best regards.

If I had a small budget and was looking for a second hand notebook to use as a second computer, I would not be too choosy. I would look around for notebooks in that price range and, if the seller seemed trustworthy (and hopefully had a return policy) I would just buy it.

And for me, I would have to see it first. I would want to know the screen size. I would want to know if the battery was good and if the charger was good too. I would have to see the notebook boot up.
