Hello.

I'm having problems with the new Windows update. All started two days ago, when I clicked on Check for updates button. The update was downloaded and started being installed normally, but when it reached 73%, the computer got freeze and everything became nonfunctional. I shut it down from the Start button, and after restarting, the same thing happened. This occurred several times, and then, I decided to stop the Windows update service and delete the content of Software Distribution folder. I also ran the Windows update troubleshooter and DISM. I tried once more to installed the update, but nothing changed. Every time it reaches 7..%, the computer freezes and I have to make a forced restart. To stop this, I now have the WU service stopped.

Before posting, I ran SFC, DISM and SFCFix, as the instructions of Sysnative say, but nothing wrong was found.

I was referred here by Corrine, after posting about this problem at Landzdown Forum in this thread: Windows 10 October 2018 Update Released

Hello and welcome!

Please do the following:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and enter the following command:

Code:
 Dism /online /Get-Drivers

Press Enter and let me know if there is an error or if it completes successfully.

Hi, softwaremaniac.

Thank you for your reply.

The command was executed without any error.

Thanks! Let's gather more info:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Hello, Softwaremaniac.

I attach my FRST logs.

Please uninstall the following temporarily:

Eset Security
Malwarebytes
MCShield
SuperAntiSpyware

Afterward, retry upgrading and if it fails, attach setuperr.log. Usually located in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\Panther

Thank you.

I will try the above tomorrow and let you know the result.

Hello, Softwaremaniac.

I uninstalled those programs and tried the update again. But... I made a mistake. Eset needed a restart to complete removal, and I did it while the update was downloading. After the restart, the computer started automatically other updates for 1803 version. Those update were installed normally, and after the restart, I checked for updates. V 1809 started being downloaded, and then being installed. Now, it's the third time it's being installed. In updates history I can see about 2 failed installations. How do I proceed?

FYI: The file you asked about, is empty.

Hi!

You mention that it has been installed three times (probably tried to install), can I get more info on the process? At what point was there an error/reverting?
How many reboot cycles were there during the install (if any)?
Have you tried upgrading from the iso directly?

Hi, S/M!

The update is finally being installed!!!

The process: it was starting downloading.... and then being installed.... reaching somewhere not specific and then... downloading again.... and then being installed... etc. etc.

This happen at least 3 times. Then I left from the computer. When I returned, it was ready for a restart! It took an hour for the restart to be done, and now I have the update 1809 installed in my computer. I attach what is shown in the Updates history, as well as in the Control Panel.
