Hi,

I have been having issues with my "New" computer since I purchase it about ten months ago.

Strange stuff, like:

1. The screen goes black in the middle of the night ... one time, it went black while I was reading a .doc document, but that only occurred once. I have to perform a hard reboot to get it working again.
2. Sometimes, for no immediately detectable reason, my computer will go unresponsive with a spinning circular cursor and stay that way until I perform a hard reboot.
3. I'll have been away from the computer for a while, and when I go to open a program, nothing happens, and the mouse cursor disappears completely. Again, hard reboot.

These are random things. Some days are better than others. There is no detectable pattern to it. Additionally, there are other similar and strange occurrences, but I can't think of them right now.

I have updated all my drivers, and that didn't fix it. So, I performed a System File Check, and the result was:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I have seen other threads pertaining to this, but they were so advanced in their descriptions of how to fix this, that frankly, I couldn't figure out what the heck they were talking about. I have computer savvy, but there are still many things I don't know about the inner-workings of programs, software, and what-not.

Would someone be so kind as to guide me through the process of fixing the problems my computer found?

BTW, I have Windows 8, but I do not have a disc to pull files from. Also, I will be away for the better part of the weekend, but I will be on my computer for a hour or so each of those days.

Thank you in advance,

T-Man

Still need help! Bump ... I have attached the CBS.log file. New issue. On some games, when I open them up, my screen continually flashes and I have to do a hard reboot, or I get the sound of the game and a black screen. Once again, hard reboot. Please help me out here!

Hello T-Man, welcome to Sysnative!

I have good news and bad news: the good news is that your SFC problem is very easy to fix, the bad news is that it won't be causing your display issues.

Here are your SFC results:

One of the helpers here has written a guide to fix this problem, which can be found here:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...prncacla-inf-corruptions-windows-8-8-1-a.html

You need the script for: 6.2.9200.16430

When you have run the script, and SFC again, upload the logs please:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

Attach CBS.zip to your next post.

Tom

P.S. We'll come to your display problems after fixing the SFC problems!
