Hi,

Firstly, I'm quite familiar with PC building as I used to build new PCs as part of my living for clients, but it's been a few years and I confess I've not kept up with current Hardware like Mainboards, CPUs etc.

That said; I'm looking to upgrade the existing computer that I built myself as it's getting a bit long in the tooth. It still does everything I need, despite if being about five or six years old, but it's doing it a bit slowly, so time to buy a new one as I've upgraded this box to the point where upgrading it more I feel would just be throwing money down the drain.

For the sake of completeness, here are the specs of my current workbox.

Current System Specs

Motheboard
: Intel Corporation DH67CL (CPU 1)

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz

RAM: 20.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)

Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 (ASUStek Computer Inc)

Monitors: 2 x Acer V243HL 1920 x 1050 pixels 5ms 16:9 VGA/DVI/LCD Monitors

Storage: 1863GB Western Digital WDC WDS200T2B0A-00SM50 (SATA (SSD)
931GB Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB (SATA (SSD)
476GB Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB (SATA (SSD)
0B Western Digital WDC WDS200T2B0A-00SM50 (SATA (SSD)
3726GB Seagate Expansion USB Device (USB (SATA) (SSD)
3726GB Seagate Expansion Desk SCSI Disk Device (USB (SATA)

Optical Drives: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS90

Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio (Onboard)

What I'm looking to end up with is a powerful PC within a budget of up to ~$1,500.00 or slightly more if necessary. Obviously, the cheaper the better.

I'm happy with my monitor sizes and am looking to retain those.

I'm also willing to butcher my existing PC and reuse the SDDs as they've been recently installed.

I'm getting a little lazy in my old age so any suggestions for a pre-built unit that can be ordered online would be ideal.

I do a bit of Video editing work and am no muso so am not too fussed about the sound capabilities of the new machine.

I'm wanting 64GB of Fast Ram, a DVD Drive with a high-end CPU with multiple cores.

Wanting to stick with Windows 10 Pro for now.

Any suggestions on available PCs to order online? Any Brand name is OK, as is also No Brand PCs.

If I've neglected to mention anything in the way of specs, please let me know.

Many thanks,

Andrew

Hi Xilo,

Not quite. I'm in Australia :)

I've come to one conclusion though. I think it's far more likely for me to end up with a much more powerful box by self building so I'm leaning towards doing that rather than pick up a brand name.

Based on AMD CPU/motherboard:
  • CASE
Thermaltake Black Versa H24 Mid Tower Chassis NO PSU
    Amazon AU
    AUD 66.95

Hi!

I saw you liked it, hence I re-checked availabilities and prices.
Now it's AUD 1472.64 (I didn't find previous GPU).
I used the eBay app, therefore I'm not totally sure about shipping costs.

Thanks, Xilolee. I do like it actually and I can knock off the PSU as well because I always keep a couple of high-end (quiet) PSUs here. One of these days I'll buy myself a PSU tester instead. lol

I appreciate your efforts. I'll be comparing the eBay prices to retail pricing on Amazon as I have free delivery from there.

Many thanks!

Andrew

@xilolee

Just to finalise this thread, I wanted to let you know that I ended up ordering a pre-built system from Centrecom online in Australia.

The one I settled on was this one: Centre Com 'PRO Gen11 i7K' Desktop

Comes with an NVMe M.2 SSD as the system drive which is great as the three SSD's I have in my existing system aren't as fast, so I'll be definitely leaving it as the system drive.

I'll be pulling my existing ones and slaving them into the new system as secondary drives which will save a lot of time transferring data across.

So with the drives it comes with, slaving my existing 3 SSD drives, as well as attaching both of my USB 3.0 4TB external drives, I'll have a total of 14TB of storage space. Should do me for another year or two I think 😝

I also intend to pull and toss my existing low-end GPU into it for now until GPU prices come down (their costs are beyond ridiculous atm IMO) and will eventually up the RAM to 64GB when RAM prices come down as well.

It lacks a DVD-RW but it's been so long since I've used the one in my existing system I doubt I'll bother pulling that and transferring it across. Don't really see the point.

All in all, I'm hoping it should provide considerably better performance than what I'm used to and the bonus is that, unlike my existing system, it's fully Windows 11 compatible.

The only real letdown and dissapointment is the PSU, so I also ordered a 750W Corsair PSU from Amazon to install into it instead, along with new batteries for my existing UPS at the same time as the current ones are almost at end of life.

I placed the order on Sunday night and just got an SMS advising it will be delivered by courier today. Pretty good service in that respect.

Thought the price wasn't too bad for what I'm getting too.

What do you think of the price and system itself?

Best, Andrew
