Hi.

Corrine from LzD Forum advised me to write about my computer's problem here: Although automatic updates is a feature of Windows 10, my computer does not download updates automatic. I don't even know that there are updates to be done, till Eset warns me about them. It's a problem I noticed from November, when I installed Windows 10. Here is the link to LzD: No automatic updates

Thank you.

Hi DR M!

You machine is indeed up to date. Looking at the posts at LzD, it seems that ESET keeps warning you of updates even though you are up to date. I researched on this, and it appears to be a bug, and it recommends disabling the notification of Windows Updates from ESET. On the plus side, updates are automatically installed, so you shouldn't need to worry about this :)

Hi, CKing123, and thank you for your reply.

The computer is up to date, because I manually downloaded and installed the updates, after Eset's warning. It's something I do every time there are updates. Eset warns me and I go to the Settings, check for updates, download and install them. Now there is no warning from Eset, since I have already downloaded all the new updates. So the bug does not play role here, but maybe something else. If I disable Windows updates from Eset, my computer will forget about updates, except I check for them manually.

Windows will not install updates when you are using the computer, by Active Hours (more info here: How to Set “Active Hours” So Windows 10 Won’t Restart at a Bad Time). Since all the updates are installed, wait for the next set of updates (on September 13), and give it a day to let it install automatically (check the Active Hours, or change it so it automatically installs on for testing purposes). If it doesn't install updates, then you could have a problem.

Well, it will not install them. :smile9:
But let's see, now I changed active hours.

Active hours! Why didn't I think of that? :thud: However, the only thing about active hours is that when a restart is needed to complete the installation, the device won't be automatically started during active hours -- limited to 12 hours. In addition, it wasn't introduced until the Anniversary Update. Panos indicated that he has been having this issue since he upgraded from Windows 7 in November, 2015.

Panos: After the updates are released on Tuesday (13Sep), don't do anything. Wait and see if ESET notifies you of updates. Note when you get the notice from ESET.

OK! Eset now notifies me about updates. I will not do anything, waiting for a couple of days.

@Corrine, I didn't consider this, and yes it does download it and get it ready to install, but it sets the restart out of the Active Hours (though it still gives you the option to restart right now, or to schedule it for this time to be different than Active Hours).

@Dr M, Wait for tomorrow, and let Windows find the updates. You can open Settings and go to Windows Update, but don't click Check for Updates. Because these updates are security updates, don't use Internet Explorer or Edge, and I don't want to delay this too much either, so if it doesn't check the updates by tomorrow, then do a check and install it on Thursday
